i'd take resident evil off the list and add Dead & Breakfast. take The Dead off the list too, replace it with DIEner.
if you want to be technical about it, 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later aren't technically zombie films. seeing as they aren't zombies. but that's just nitpicking. instead, i'd replace them with [rec] and Pontypool.
That was a fun movie to watch. I love Zombieland too.
I like both Resident Evil and The Dead. Have you seen the Dead yet? It was genuinely a good zombie movie. I really enjoyed [rec] and also that German made one called Rammbock Berlin Undead was good too. But I haven't seen the other two you mentioned yet. I will look into them.
You're right about the 28 franchise but I still include them in the genre.
in no order:
Cemetery Man
Undead
Evil Dead
Dead Alive(unrated)
Dead Air
Dead Snow
(a lot of films with "dead" as the title)
Rammbock was okay. for like an hour long film. the dead i really didn't like all that much. not sure why. just didn't like the actor who played the main character i guess.
to be fair, i think the resident evil films have been getting better. but i still wouldn't put it on a best of list.
still love the 28 later films, who cares if they aren't technically zombie films.
DIEner is a shockly great film. it's super low budget, but everything they did was just masterful. same goes for Dead & Breakfast. just executed really well.
Awesome topic! My favorite zombie movie of all time is the original "Dawn of the Dead." I saw it for the first time in the 3rd grade (1997) and have watched it about 150 times since. The VHS I had of it is in such poor quality from playing it so many times way back then. It has created my love for zombies and zombie/special effect make-up.
1) Night Of The Living Dead
2) Zombie (Zombi 2) - C'mon Zombie vs. Shark
3) Dawn Of The Dead
4) Re-Animator
5) Shaun of the Dead
6) The Beyond
7) Gates of Hell
8) Messiah of Evil
9) Nightmare City
10) Horror of the Zombies (Ghost Galleon)
11) Demons
12) Burial Ground
13) Planet Terror
14) Erotic Nights of the Living Dead
15) Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things
16) Pet Sematary
17) Death Dream
18) The Grapes of Death
19) Hell Of The Living Dead
20) Living Dead Girl ('82)
21) Sugar Hill
22) House By The Cemetery
25) Zombie Lake
26) Killing Birds: Zombie 5
27) Revenge of The Dead (Zeder)
28) Night Of the Living Dead ('91)
29) Day of The Dead
30) Dawn Of The Dead ('04)
31) After Death: Zombie 4
32) Kiss Daddy Goodbye
33) House Of The Dead
34) Mausoleum
35) Deadgirl
36) Zombi 3
37) One Dark Night
And I'll be honest....I liked these flicks...but I can't keep them straight as to what happened in what film.
Tombs of the Blind Dead
Return of the Blind Dead
Night Of The Seagulls
Oasis of the Zombies
and if I include "Demons" than I suppose the "Evil Dead" Trilogy counts...
and if "Kiss Daddy Goodbye" passes as a zombie flick than "Friday the 13th Part VII:The New Blood" gets a shout out also.
oh, shit....and Redneck Zombies.
A Participant says:
Not a movie cause I don't care for zombie movies, but in my mind Thriller will always represent the best of zombies.
Dammit, man. If you're going to get off topic with Michael Jackson I'll throw in a movie made by a Zombie. Rob's wife is hot. I could watch House of 1000 Corpses and Devil's Rejects all day.
28 days later is the best for horror/reality
You all have some really good films listed here and music videos too lol. Some of the other older movies like night of the comet and night of the creeps and in the same family but different. i love all the evil dead ones too.
What do you all think about the remakes of Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead? Return of the Living Dead part II is still one of my favorites and I would love to see them try and re-make that one.

i think Yeah Yeah Yeahs had a music video where a bunch of kids were zombies... no, wait. found it Y Control. they're just a bunch of crazy killers, never mind.
i really liked Return of the Living Dead part III. it turned it into a love story, which really worked. nothing like burning together with the one you love.
loved the remake of dawn of the dead. Day of the Dead... well, just because they called it Day of the Dead doesn't mean it was a remake of Day of the Dead. pretty terrible.
hey, check out the trailer for Exit Humanity.

Army of Darkness (for a light hearted giggle)
28 Weeks later (for a 'run for your lives' beginning')
White Zombie (just because it was the first zombie film EVER!)
The one where they are trapped in a church. Was that Return of the Living Dead Part II?
First horror movie to scare me, thrill me and make me laugh.
Anyone seen Juan of the Dead yet? Cuban movie in which the protagonist sets up a business charging people for him killing the reanimated loved ones they cannot bear to kill themselves. Nice touches, including an attack with a voice over from state radio telling everyone it was an American plan but it's all been dealt with now.
Dead Set was another good zombie movie that was a mini-series in the UK. I thought it was well made and created some memorable characters. The Dead was really well made about the one in the desert country.
Night of the Living Dead Part II still makes me laugh until it hurts. The one where the young guy and the old man from the Path Mark Grocery commercials work at the warehouse.

I really liked Zombieland and 28 Days Later. Generally, I'll admit, I'm not a zombie person. They just don't frighten me and so I like films that change that up one way or another. With 28 Days Later, it was the first film where I thought the zombies were genuinely frightening.
I liked both of those films too. Although one was more geared towards comedy. They are both on my top ten list. Even 'I am Legend' is ranked high on my favorite movies but it's not technically a zombie flick.

EVERYONE MUST WATCH THIS DVD if you like that claustrophobic jump factor!!!
