Cary Howe says:
Come on you can't randomly throw zombies into any historic period and call it original. The writer saw Spartacus and then saw Walking Dead and had a eureka moment. What about story and characters? Come up with an actual reason for the dead attacking Rome other than it's what they would do on the SciFi Channel. I swear most of the genre scripts out there are WWSFCR, What Would ScFi Channel Run". Every SciFi Original Movie is unwatchable so what kind of standard is that???? At least try to work it into the history of what actually happened. If you want to do zombies in history what about the Black Plague turns people into flesh eating zombies and that's why half of Europe died? At least there's a story in there that's longer than a log line. How long before some one submits a script on that theme? The point is ideas are easy but good scripts aren't they take work. A log line isn't a script. If the story can be told in a log line then don't waste time on a script unless you're Michael Bay. I swear his scripts are a page long if you take out the action scenes. 30 years ago I would go to three films on an average weekend, now I see maybe two a year and regret at least one of them. Here's a rule of thumb, take out every action scene and would you still want to see this movie? If not then it's not a script it's a music video and people will be bored to tears. Write characters people relate to and don't plug holes in scripts with action scenes. Who am I kidding, write a bunch of action scenes and string them together with dumb dialogue and make sure it's close to 90 pages long, now that's a script! Sorry just tired of formula BS. It's killing the industry and no one seems to care.
