Larry Chance says:
Here are the trailers that I think have been overlooked by the Zon overlords. Any of these trailers SHOULD have won over those that did win. This is not a really debatable point. The trailers on this list are in some cases FAR superior to those trailers that actually won.
Evolver Trailer 10 - GRINDHOUSE CUT
My "Evolver" trailer makes the movie seem bigger than it really is. I really wanted to do several "Grindhouse" style trailers, but there's really no point anymore. My trailer is DOA, it can't win. so that's that.
Lake Cop 2: Ripple Effect Trailer 1 - Director's original
This has to be one of the funniest trailers on the site, and certainly the most professional. Okay, so obviously Amazon isn't going to make a "Lake Cop 2" movie, but it sure as heck ain't going to be making a "Black Hat" movie anytime either, so there was no reason why LC2 couldn't have won.
For Sale By Superhero Trailer 1 - MJ Triplett
I'm still puzzled as to why this one was totally overlooked by the Zon staff. The guy (hope it's a guy, lol) created the trailer from the ground up, based ONLY on the script, and the trailer really worked, and really presented the concept very well.
Red Rain Trailer 1 - Horror
Well, this one wasn't overlooked, it won! But i just wanted to include it in the list because it's good.
Memory Trailer 2 - Eye For An Eye
This trailer -should- win for the final "thriller/horror" week. If it doesn't win, then for shame on the Zon, because it's one of the best trailers on the site.
America’s Ben Franklin in: The Electrocution String Trailer 9 - Connolly Trailer 02
Don't understand how those at the Zon totally stiffed Amy Connolly, out of an award for this well made trailer that took "Ben Franklin" and somehow made it work.
Touching Blue Trailer 9 - You owe me...
WAY superior to Amazon Studio's own "Anime" "Touching Poo" test movie.
Z-Man, Joseph's final cut hi res
What's there to say, poor Joe has been seriously undercut in this year's contest by MUCH inferior test films and trailers. Joe did several Zman trailers, some of them are very funny.
Return Fire Trailer 3 - Originally created without test movie
Once again another trailer created without the benefit of a test movie and it's done well.
12 Princesses, Trailer 8
This 12p trailer is considerably better than even the one that won, which was created by the author of the project!
And the best trailer on the site (Period) is:
I Think My Facebook Friend is Dead Trailer 11 - Come on Gary Cut
Sorry, not to toot my own horn, but you can take this trailer and show it in a theater right now, as is, and the audience would think it was a real movie. It's the most professional looking trailer, and it's fast and hyper like it should be. The best other trailer of "Facebook Friend" was done by the film's director Francisco, but the issue of "Facebook Friend" is that it's a small, slowish, very low budget film. I'm not knocking the test film. They performed MAGIC as far as I'm concerned. My trailer obfuscates this fact by speeding everything up and injecting energy into what is otherwise a straightforward movie.
I think AS made some pretty "We don't give a **** " choices in the trailer contest. The choice to give "12 Princesses" "Best Comedy" trailer award, when it isn't really a comedy at all, REALLY sucked. There were MANY better COMEDY trailers that could have been chosen. Heck even "The Umpire" trailer was better than Rob's own "12P" trailer.
Then there was this past week's selection of "The Night at Predictability Lake" debacle. The trailer should be named "pictures of numbers in the woods," because that's all it was. Look, the trailer wasn't bad. I liked it. Was it the best trailer out of all of the trailers up to that point? Not by a long shot. It also has questionable music in the trailer that makes one wonder, "did the author get the rights for the music?"
Overall I'm not grousing because I didn't win. To be honest, I never expected to -ever- win anything in the AS contest. Even if I had secretly hired Steven Spielberg to direct my trailers, I had been highly critical of AS in the past, so I'd never win. Those that have sucked up to AS have progressed and won. Those that have been critical, have not.
This is a "Teachable Moment" kids. ALWAYS suck up, ALL the time and you will get ahead in life. NEVER, EVER tell the truth in any situation. Nobody likes to hear the truth, and in fact people are very uncomfortable with the truth, and you will become very unpopular if you speak the truth.
But still, my outspokenness does not explain the near-randomness of Amazon Studios selections for "best trailer" for the past eight weeks.
