“I'm still of the mind that the film would be really effective in live action, augmented by visual and CG effects, similar to Baz Luhrmann's "Moulin Rouge" or Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland"”.
Yes I think that is a fantastic idea. If I may expand somewhat; I was thinking that with each realm the girls travel to the feel of the whole set could change. For example if the Queen fairy walks into a room the room is shot through a heavy camera filter to give the room that soft glow or maybe a slight strobe effect that would be seen on all the walls and in the characters eyes. Then of course this would enhance the effect of the bright white hot spot light when the girls sing and dance on stage. If someone is bad or a villain, then cover them in soot, and grim so if they do change for the “Good” some of the grime can come off. The girls would try to clean them up but would never be able to clean them all the way up. But when the girls are in a room if they are not part of the main plot they could always be cleaning or decorating making every space they are involved with a better place after they leave. Of course if the villains are really bad they would undo all that the girls had done to make the room nice. This is all implied in my proposal. (Or it should be)

I uploaded my proposal last night. I also go for live action, and a dark dark story line. It felt as if Don had looked into my mind. I just hope this is a case of great minds thinking alike! Apart from visual texture, I also accentuate changes of mood with musical texturing.

Evil girls, nastier than Tarantino... and me a gentle soul (!) but the story has a life of its own.

Mine could be done either way with no real issues, I would think.

"Great minds think alike" is right because this is a great story line, and Hollywood needs this story, America needs this story. Rob Gardner is a "can't miss" director and writer that just needs some help with the details so that every scene jumps out of the screen and makes impacts on many people in many different ways. When a beautiful soul risks everything just for the chance of a miserable soul to be pulled from the depths of despair never gets old. One of my favorite lines is, “There is love and there is a cry for love".

I would love to see this with a live cast. I like the animated proposal but really think this needs a human cast. It needs real live breathing emotional characters. I like how Danny Jr. brought up the Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland reference because the whole time I was watching this I was picturing what Burton's style would do to influence this movie.

If this is to be a viable venture with a live action case- I think you need to ditch the music.... audiences are far more forgiving of a "dorky" song when an animated character is involved- not so much with a live human.
I don't believe Franc will play as well in live action...

I have to say- Tim Burton is the only who can really SELL Tim Burton
I don't think Burtonesque will cut if this film is to sell

Tackling fairy tales in live action is always tricky- suspension of disbelief becomes an issue that is more likely dismissed within an animated world

In animation we believe the fairies and giants to be real, because they exist in THEIR world
With "human" characters, especially if popular actors/actresses are used- we will associate them with past roles or have difficulty placing them in ANOTHER world

I think films like Hugo, all the Baz Luhrman films, even Wes Anderson films like Moonrise Kingdom, are great examples of unconventional live action storytelling that serve as a good precedence to 12 Princesses.
