You do? good.

Now imagine instead of a rich White family adopting a poor Black kid you have the a rich Black family adopting a poor White kid.

Now imagine this show being filtered by a pop culture loving nerd and you have this show...

Family Clemistry.

a hilarious look at race, class and pop culture.

Please tell me what you think of the script

I like the premise - all the best, Jim

Lisa Scott says:
actually, the premise kinda turns my stomach.
is your white kid physically deformed like gary coleman and the kid who played webster?

rich black folk adopting a white kid kinda makes me think of michael jackson.. which is not a good thing. sorry.

might work as one of those non-PC animated shows, but then you gotta go hard with the jokes. i took a quick peek. i'm not a sitcom person, but methinks you suffer from "talking head" syndrome.

Your post reminded me of what a pleasure it was to have worked with Executive Producer (Al Burton) of Different Strokes. He and I became acquainted over at Universal Pictures years ago threw a very dear friend of mine.

Although, I mostly worked with him after he relocated to Castle Rock Entertainment; later he won a Day Time Emmy for the game show: Win Ben Stein’s Money, along with co-host Jimmy Kimmel.

Good luck on your new concept, and thank you so much for keeping my friends work alive with your wonderful creativity Martin.

Wow Johnny, name drop much?

And if he threw your friend around at Universal Pictures, he's really not that much of a friend. ;)

Bingo. This could work if it had a strong element of "black humor." Pun intended. If, for instance, the white kid were the physical equivalent of one of those lawn jockeys you used to see, amongst the flamingos, on front yards of upscale residences.

Another twist? Have the kid previously raised (before the demise of his rich ultrasnob white parents) by a black au pair right out of the hood, who gave him black dialect and attitude, along with a love of gangsta music and style, etc. So the kid comes across as "more black" than his adoptive family....

All offensive as hell, I know. It has to be, to be funny.

Lisa Scott says:
exactly! he has to be more black than his parents. you have to be offensive as hell, the more offensive the better. then take it to FOX or comedy central.

How far did you throw this very good friend of yours?

Unless you were practicing judo or aikido, it's not a good practice to throw very good friends.

I mean, they don't come along all that often, so you shouldn't be just throwing them around.

@Jammaster

Thanks.

But who's Jim?
Main1309711015._sx45_sy45_
@Lisa

Sorry to make you nauseous.

I'm sure we could find a child actor with kidney problems and pump him with corticosteroids to stunt his growth.

I'll work on the talking head syndrome and I'll punch up more jokes.

@Johnny

Thank you

Though I think Al Burton's memory (or at least the show he worked on) has been kept alive (in reruns and people's memories) pretty well already.

@Jim

Ahhh ok.

Nice to meet you Jim.

@Max

I think I'll keep away from the white kid talking with a "Black dialect" (it's been done before) but I already figured the kid would be into rap music, but it's actually pretty common for white kids to be into hip-hop so I don't think that will really be that shocking.

I used to work at a housing authority recreation center in my mid 20s, back in the 70s. I was surprised how quick witted and smart those preschoolers and early grade school kids where. They seemed to me far more developed than white kids. I guess living in a rough environment ages you early.

The only way a sitcom could work like that is if the Black Kid taught the family as much as the rich family taught him.

But if you put a red cape on him and went downtown people might pay to have their picture taken with your dog.
