MAJOR CHANGES

The demon wolf that spawns the zombies is sent to Rome by Kandace, a Nubian High Priestess. She's the Star Wars emperor to Flavius' Darth Vader.

Lavinia, Roman slave, becomes Shabaka, Nubian slave. Kidnapped from Alexandria, Egypt when she was 10. She knows important information about zombies and their probable origin in her homeland because she apprenticed in a temple. She has dreams that go beyond making babies. She wishes to return to her home and continue her studies in the Temple of Isis.

Titus gets more personality, a sense of humor, increased likability and a back story. Titus and Flavius grew up together as children -- sort of like Moses and Yul Brynner. They had a major falling out when Titus became romantically involved with Flavius' sister. Titus was sent to work in the copper mines, then became a gladiator. The sister died mysteriously.

Claudia, the aristocratic niece of Flavius, is introduced. The story needed another strong female character, Someone for Shabaka to talk to. Claudia may or may not be Titus' daughter. Claudia, not Lavinia/Shabaka becomes infected from a zombie scratch and must be saved. This allows Shabaka to be more heroic.

Kandace, the Nubian High Priestess, another strong female character is introduced. She's the cause of the zombie nightmare in Rome and eventually supplies the solution. The zombies are entirely supernatural in nature. A result of prayer to Ishtar, a Mesopotamian Goddess of Love and Fertility. There is an actual zombie-esque prayer to this Goddess at least wikipedia thinks so.

The second act gets an Indiana Jones trip to a secret temple hidden in Alexander the Great's Tomb in Alexandria, Egypt. A cure is eventually given to Titus from Kandace. It is revealed that Kandace is Shabaka's mother.

The climatic ending takes place in the Colosseum between Zombies and Gladiators, as it should be. A grudge match occurs between Quintus and Flavius, then a final showdown between Flavius and Titus.

The zombies are made more zombie-like. Lost the Scooby-Doo red glowing eyes, gave them some wolf characteristics given their origin.

Victor becomes a major character that goes along for the ride. He is older, fatter, more experienced and funny, like Zero Mostel in "Funny Thing" without the singing.

Lucius does not turn traitor. I thought Quintus becoming an SOB was enough.

Given the supernatural nature of zombies and the cure, Drusis role gets reduced. His name is changed to Galen. Drusis looks clever on paper but when its pronounced? I'm not too sure.

Lost the brothel scene. I liked the zombies underwater idea so CAPTAIN ANATOLI, a former Turkish Pirate, ends up harpooned and dangles overboard like a big fish while he's a zombie.

Wow, this sounds incredible. Will put this one on my list for when I've completed mine.

Thanks Antony!

I'm not sure I would have even started if I knew that there would be over 43 rewrites, and that you and Gary were also going to enter.

I look forward to reading your version.

Hey Jeff, hopefully I'll be able to get my editing done on mine and possibly a dialogue track before this weekend so I can read yours. Hopefully you'll be able to read mine as well. Good luck. Later man.

@Brandon

Best of luck getting everything done. I had a self-imposed deadline of today because I'm going to be away from a computer the rest of the month.

I would have liked another week to tweak some things.

I hear you man, I was in the middle of a 10 day straight work week in the middle of August when I first noticed this site and the contest. I pretty much banged out the rewrite this past week and half or else I would have likely focused on an original script instead. Guess that'll be for September.

I also have a major project on at work, and plans most of the weekend. I used to work every lunch hour but this week is nuts. Just hope I've got time to do a polish at least, but this will be far from my best work.

Lunch hours!!! That's when I do almost all of my writing. Work is so restrictive (no unauthorized software) that I am forced to write everything in Word and then convert it at home-- usually around midnight.

I will say that I really enjoyed the rewriting process. I found it easier to tear things up.

@Jeff Mann

Have you considered using Celtx? It'll fit on a thumb drive and we've recently discovered how to properly format the information in a Celtx file into .rtf.

What I do is use Celtx from a thumb drive and save my work to that. Lately however, I've been saving the .celtx file to Google Docs (which is basically cloud storage) so that I don't have to worry about forgetting the thumb drive at work.

I resorted to buying a tiny Netbook, so I could also work on the train.

If you have an iPad, Celtx has an app for that.

I've just started a collaborative project and we started using Goggle Docs for all the planning documents, the beatsheets, scene lists, character descriptions, notes to throw around ideas. I've been very happy with it. The Revision tool is much better than I thought it would be.

I played around with a couple of the script templates and haven't figured them out or they're not so good.

It's probably a good time to try Celtx.

Google Docs is excellent for collaboration projects. I have a project I'm outlining on Google Docs. I had thought of finding another partner, but haven't found anyone.

Celtx is very easy to use. And its FREE!

Celtx also has a collaboration option. I haven't used it yet but it's there.
