Writing a new script now and had the intention to put it on AS when I had finished but I'm just wondering what's happened to the script competitions? I've noticed that a lot of things have changed since I last used AS, does anyone have any idea what AS plans to do with 2012 competitions, or if the script competitions have stopped altogether? Cheers

There's been silence on that from AS Joe. Simple answer is that nobody knows anything except the people in the AS offices.

I saw your 'Sitters' comedy script, downloaded it with the intention of offering you a review swap. I'm trying to get my script finished - been working on it solidly for last few days but when it's uploaded would you do a review swap? It's a comedy.

As for competitions we can only hope they announce something soon
My advice is go ahead and write the script but hold it, unless you want reviews from forum folks, until we know for sure what's going on. The longer we have no word from AS, and people haven been constantly asking here in the forums and through contact with Studio Steph and the contact button, the longer AS is silent, the more my doubts grow about the future of script contests here. They could continue the script development without contests.

Thanks for the update Calvin.

I hadn't realised that people had been using the contact button and asking Studio Steph. That does sound a bit ominous if all there is in return is golden silence.

I suppose on the plus side, if we post scripts and AS then folds / closes or announces there'll be no new contests then sure it will make the option / development agreements invalid? So the risk of uploading a script might be lower - conversely?

I am pretty sure there have been times in the past year where we have come to within a week of the end of a month and no contest have been announced. I think they just like to see us squirm. I am predicting a Friday announcement.

@ Joe D

Didn't the monthly contests just roll on each month or did they make an announcement and adjust the deadlines each month to take account of longer months? (I wasn't around here until December).

I'm not so sure about new announcements. I think they might wait until the winners of the Jan/Feb contests have been completed before saying anything.

Of course they could just not make any announcements and let the whole thing die out if it's not working out the way they imagined.

If they are no longer having the contests for screenwriting, and 'some' people joined Amazon for that specific reason, should that VOID our agreement with them? Just thinking out loud....

Hi Ken,

Ye I think it would not be fair to cancel any script competitions when that is the only reason that a lot of us are here, that's why I am anyway. I have no intention of producing trailers or test movies, I just want to develop my skills as a screenwriter but there's no point putting them up on AS if there's no contests and they'll have rights to it for 18 months.

The agreement has nothing to do with the contests except that if it qualifies for a contest itis entered. no contest does not void contrat with AS

Antony, The monthly contests only spanned 3 or 4 months out.
There has been AS activity on the site maintaining programs other than the script program. I would not suggest there will not be a script program. Only that for me, I think it better to wait for some kind of announcement - which will be made eventually - before posting a new script. Others may feel differently. All our situations are not the same.

...only if there is a clause in the AS agreement that states 'our option on your work will void if we no longer hold script contests' or similar - there is no such clause :-(
