Zwe Thant says:
Seeing that it was actually listed as a potential plot development by the development slate, it is understandable for you to think that but I wouldn't necessarily say that it went to someone else's project. Premise and Plot developments overlap all the time with major similarities or sometimes even unintentionally (lets give them the benefit of the doubt) congruent styles. Some patterns are just more lucrative than others. It doesn't make it wrong, just overplayed and with time, it becomes a cliche.
And do bear in mind the iconic difference between classics and cliches, that same reason why superman, batman, and spiderman have been rebooted again, (and will undoubtedly be rebooted many more in the upcoming years, hopefully exploring new ways to tell the story with each one) and Adam sandler movies. Are they bad? Debatable. Are they funny? Hopefully. Are they constantly stuck in a boy-meets-girl paradigm, with the only variables from one movie to the other being the set, costumes, "characters", and lines? Sadly yes. But! are they are commercial success? YES!
So to recap, ITMFFIS did not go sideways into someone else's project (Sex Drive, Eurotrip, Nick and Norah, the afore mentioned Seeking a friend for the end of the world), just took a huge crossover to cliche-land, which will mostly likely rake in a decent profit for their first movie, if they chose to produce it that is. Will it be bad? Debatable. Would it be funny? Once again debatable. Will people watch it? Probably get as much time on the box office spotlight as 50 first dates. Will it be cliche? Yes, but remember kids, it's not wrong to use a cliche. It's only just a sin.

The story of an "unexpected romance blossoming between two strangers while on an impromptu road trip" is familiar territory for Director Lorene Scafaria, as that was the premise of her previous screenplay, "Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist".

I can't help but think that contributions to 'I Think My Facebook Friend is Dead' went sideways into someone elses project.
