Viv Bevan says:
I thought Amazon was trying to discover fresh talent, but this gig has not even been offered to the writers on here. Also, I just checked IMDB and Barker has not got one single writing credit for a theatrically released film. He's directed and produced, but all he's written is shorts.
Main1348121535._sx45_sy45_
Ed Falcon says:
This gig was offered here first. Laurie won it and was paid 10K or something for her rewrite.
Main1342288645._sx45_sy45_
Larry Chance says:
Viv, Barker wrote and directed several films including: "Hellraiser," "Nightbreed," "Lord of Illusions," "Rawhead Rex," "Candyman," etc. and so forth. Some films he just wrote the story. Other films he wrote the screenplay and the story, as well as directed them.

Transmutations
Rawhide Rex
Hellraiser
Nightbreed
Lord of Illusions

what part of those feature length films did you miss?
Main1362187175._sx45_sy45_
Andrew says:
Actually, I saw part of Lord of Illusions...

and, given a time machine, I would go back and miss it.
Profileimage._sx45_sy45_
Lisa Scott says:
he got the gig because "attaching" is huge! you can have a so-so script but if an a-lister can turn that project into a greenlight.

also, the script is already written. he would just be rewriting it. how much he will change has yet to be seen.
Main1369856147._sx45_sy45_
Simply put, more people will be interested in, and pay money to see, a film written by him than any of us.
Profileimage._sx45_sy45_
A Participant says:
Wait... That means... oh no....
They will take some poor schnook's idea, rewrite it and slap a sexy name to it, pay 200K to the writer, sell for 800K and share the profits with the sexy name?

Very nice :) As if I didn't see that coming.

But then again... I am here to learn, not earn. When I want to earn, I guess I'll have to go the classic route :). No fame in being Amazonian. no fame - no glory.
Profileimage._sx45_sy45_
Lisa Scott says:
that's the way they've been doing it for years -- standard industry practice.
what's kinda wrong about it is that AS started out saying they were going to do things differently. but, they're really very much the same... except for the open to anyone submission policy.
Profileimage._sx45_sy45_
A Participant says:
Well, I have no problem eating **** (self censorhip) with a prospect of caviar one day. US is a pretty big and wealthy market. At least snowballs have a chance in that particular hell.

I come from a pisspoint of the universe country, where the entire population does not constitute a small NY suburb. Add Serbian mafia running the whole gig and ex commies bringing the economy to a grinding halt...

I'd sooner try to install a sprinkler in hell and try to build a ski resort.

Joe Dinicola says:
AS never claimed you would gain fame and fortune if they bought your script. They did say that you have a chance to "get you movie made" and would pay you for the rights to make it.

It's literally written under the heading of the Getting started page for movies.

I see no problem with what they are doing. If the movie is made then they fulfilled their promise.
Main1304600334._sx45_sy45_
Lauri says:
@ Joe - as long as the check clears they've fulfilled their promise.

And it did. :)

Getting the movie made is the icing on the cupcake.
Main1302892774._sx45_sy45_
Joe Dinicola says:
Lauri,

Every time I give my Nephew a cupcake, I watch him eat the icing and leave the cake. I want the icing.
Profileimage._sx45_sy45_
A Participant says:
Every time I see someone eating a cupcake I watch him eat the icing, i say to myself: Can I at least have the cake? Never happens. It's even worse for people in North Korea. They don't even know cake exists.

It's all a matter of perspective :)
Main1302892774._sx45_sy45_
Joe Dinicola says:
You're better off not taking the sloppy seconds of someone else's cupcake. Work on getting your own cupcake. And for the North Koreans, what you don't know won't hurt you.
Profileimage._sx45_sy45_
Lisa Scott says:
i usually skim off the excess icing and eat the cake with only a little bit of extra sweetness. guess i'm more indie material then tentpole blockbuster. hmmm!

however... it does depend on the flavor of the icing; peanut butter on choc cake or cream cheese on carrot cake... i eat it all!!!

Actually, I always assumed from the first that if AS was interested in my script, it would be turned over to more experienced writers. Consider it a paid apprenticeship. In order to get a lot of good jobs these days who have to first do an apprenticeship. Sometimes without pay, to prove your worth. As we gain experience, and can pad our resumes with experience, more opportunities will come. From what I read most of the money is screenwriting anyway, comes from rewriting other people's scripts, or even your own after others have rewritten it out of recognition of your original story.
Profileimage._sx45_sy45_
Lisa Scott says:
they're not interested in your script. they're interested in your CONCEPT... if you had one they wanted, that is. but, you must execute it properly in script format to get them interested. there are a few really good scripts here, but if it's not a concept they want then there's nothing you can do about it... except to face the truth and go elsewhere.

Well, I hope resume means something outside my country.
Here it only means you will surely not get a job in that field.
I have 3 cannes lions nominations, a golden Epica award and a myriad of other international awards in advertising and the last job I was offered was packaging Tervol insulation...

So... in my experience - resume is worth a fetid dingo's kidney. You have to have pure incredible luck to land a writer's job of your life.

It matters just as much who is attached to it. Who cares about "Joe Blow" if you can get somebody with a name to do the same thing. He has a loyal following so it's a gurantee that it will at least break even if it ever does get made. It does suck thhough, I always thought his zombies kinda sucked :x
