Does anyone think anyone will get a rewrite shot if they weren't asked for a sample script?

That's my only shot it looks like.

I'd say it's looking pretty slim... which is too bad, because I thought I had a cool pitch. (But of course, so did everyone else...) Be very interested to see what tone they go with. And if they totally omit the girl power, I think they're making a major mistake.

Yeah, I'm with you. I think the girls need to have a feminine side but a strong willed side also. Mine train in martial arts through song and dance.

I think the days of the un-empowered ingénue are history. Ariel was the last one I can recall and, as the father of three daughters, I'm particularly well versed in all things princess-y. Pocahontas (to some extent), Mulan, Tiana, Rapunzel, Merida, even the Barbie movies and the Shrek princesses, all reflect a stronger role model for young girls.

It's the 21st Century and, while recognizing that issues remain, women can pretty much do anything men can do (except serve on submarines and in the Special Forces). So why make them anything other than empowered (unless you are doing it mockingly)? To do otherwise makes the characters more than unrealistic - it makes them un-relatable.

In the end, I think it does a disservice to women characters to have to color them "empowered." It implies a basic - and wrong - state that such a woman deviates from the norm. Call me an extremely proud dad, but I think the characters should simply be "women/girls" cut from the modern cloth. No "empowerment" necessary...unless their superheroes. Then they should be super-empowered.

@ Alex - good point. One upon a time a non-passive female character who didn't need to be rescued was an exception -- an "empowered" woman. Now, I hope that the STANDARD is a woman/girl who doesn't need to be rescued. So what do we call that? "Strong"? "Real"?

That's what bugged me about the original 12 P -- all those passive princesses who only cared about boys and dancing, and who needed a boy to "save" them. Hopelessly retro.

I think today is the last business day of the 45 days? Unless they're running late? So we may hear as early as next week, or it may take a while longer...

Heavens! It is just about the end of the 6 weeks! I wrote mine on the 14TH (joined site a few days before, only decided to participate on the 13TH, and could not get going on it, till the next morning/last day) and turned it in just an hour before deadline...noticed a couple of typos later...arghh! Ah well, it was a fun challenge though! I think I will publish my own version on Amazon's Createspace once they have updated everyone on who they selected. Congrats to those who got requests for samples!
