When Kevin and Theresa are were children, they tried to build a fort in the woods outside of town, on the banks of the Grand River... Now as a teenager, Kevin has left his home and returned to the one place he remembers most fondly from his childhood, with a plan to stay...
Synopsis:
A teenage boy leaves his disfunctional home and returns to the place in the woods where an abandoned fort lies... His name is Kevin and years go he tried to build this fort as a child, together with his girlfriend Theresa. Kevin soon convinces Theresa to join him on his quest to build a proper house out there, along the banks of the Grand River.
As the pair begin to realize their ambitions to live off the grid, tensions arise- At first Theresa continues to live at home and go to school, causing her to have to lie to her friends to cover for Kevin. Soon one girl from her group, Mary, begins to investigate further, leaving rumors and speculation in her wake...
After spending the night with Kevin, Theresa is caught in a lie by her parents Patty and Oliver, leading to a blowup in the home. This causes Theresa's younger brother Jesse to take an interest in the goings on, and eventually Theresa reveals the secret to Jesse. Soon Jesse joins the pair and assists with the building of the house.
Into the mix arrives Ricky, a thug from their school, along with his friend Dan and their cadre of tough guys... Ricky takes an interest in the rumors about Kevin, leading to a confrontation between the two boys when Kevin comes into town to practice with his band. After this conflict seems to die down, Ricky begins to reveal his real interest in Theresa.
As the progress on the house continues various groups of individuals begin to circle closer and closer to the house in the woods- Theresa's parents, her friends, Dan and his crew, as well as Steve, the powerful owner of a construction supply business that Kevin has been stealing material from.
A confrontation in the woods looms, and Theresa has to choose between Kevin and his reckless, doomed ambition, and the comfort and security of her family and home...
