Synopsis: “A NIGHT IN THE LYONS DEN” is an ensemble comedy that placed in the Top-20 of the Writers Digest Annual Writing Competition. Set mainly at The Lyons Den pub in fictional Tension, Minnesota, this screenplay could be brought to life on a limited budget.

To avoid a claustrophobic feeling from one main location we occasionally flashback to the characters’ high school days -- to a softball game, a high school dance, and a trip to a zoo. The locations in and around The Lyons Den also vary for this purpose.

“A NIGHT IN THE LYONS DEN” begins with four girlfriends -- a tomboy, a prude, a klutz, and a soccer mom -- all miserably pushing thirty, meeting at The Lyons Den to catch their breath from life’s stresses. This night will be anything but relaxing as their first love; Alex -- yes the same man -- enters, having not been seen for ten years.

Anxieties run wild after Alex refers to one of them as “Nicki”, the tramp responsible for their breakups. Minutes later fate brings arch enemy, Nicki, into The Lyons Den and the girlfriends revert to a high school mob mentality. Bartender, Dennis, desperately wants alone time with one of the friends; and Tension’s only cop, Tad, fights to keep order while battling his own desire to fall off the wagon.

As the chaos winds down, the girlfriends find evidence that the night was choreographed. Alex attempts to escape, only to be bound, gagged, and shoved into a walk-in cooler until he confesses. Triumphant, but still anxious, the friends call a phone number written on the evidence. It’s time for the complete truth as a nearby cell phone rings.

“A NIGHT IN THE LYONS DEN” is a story about the importance of attaining closure, even from someone you no longer have strong feelings for. A story to inspire people to call their former lovers and apologize before, like Alex, they find themselves in a night of sex, lies, and duct tape!
