Barry Barker is an unremarkable English geek until he is hit by a meteorite and develops telekinetic powers. He uses his newfound powers to fight crime as The Mindbender! But he soon runs afoul of an evil comic book shop owner.
Synopsis:BARRY BARKER is an unremarkable geek who spends his days delivering leaflets for a STD clinic and dreaming of a check-out girl named Whitney.
One day Barry is hit by a meteorite and knocked unconscious. When he comes to he finds he has developed telekinetic powers. He seeks advice from a TV psychic called MYSTIC LEE, who has recently been fired from a lottery results show. Lee sees Barry’s power as his ticket back into the media spotlight and becomes Barry’s mentor.
After an encounter with a cynical comic shop owner named WAYNE, Barry decide to use his power to fight crime. Soon he is terrorising his unfriendly neighbourhood chavs as the masked vigilante The Mindbender!
Wayne steals Barry’s meteorite and uses it to give himself superhuman strength and embarks on a crime spree as The Thieving Bastard!
Both Barry and Wayne’s activities attract the attention of the ruthlessly pleasant Detective Inspector HARRY PARRY, who begins a dogged pursuit of both men.
A showdown takes places between Barry and Wayne: a furious battle where Barry risks everything to stop his arch-enemy’s reign of terror. Barry destroys the meteorite robbing both himself and Wayne of their powers.
Wayne is arrested. Lee, impressed by Barry’s heroism, dons his Mindbender costume and is arrested in his place. Six months later Lee is released from prison a national hero. In the intervening time Barry has become a police community support officer and now fights crime in his own, more modest, fashion.
MINDBENDER! is a low-budget crime caper set in the UK. A story that proves that comedy, excitement and heroism can be found in the most unlikely of places.
