"War Dog"

An Army Ranger and his loyal German Shepherd War Dog -- "Bear" -- are ordered into Colombia, South America to retrieve a United States Senator who has been kidnapped and held for one-half billion in gold bullion by FARC revolutionaries and al Qaeda escapees.
Project collaboration: By Permission
Synopsis: An international news syndicate reports that one of the Navy Seals on the Bin Laden raid was strapped to a war dog is but the latest indication of the importance of dogs in our military efforts.

The best-kept military secret of the campaigns in Iraq and Afghanistan are these highly trained, highly motivated, war dogs. There are literally thousands accompanying their Special Forces handlers. What better way to hunt down terrorists hidden in caves and spot land mines than with the help of these extraordinary dogs?

An American Senator, in this case a powerful woman on the Foreign Relations Committee, is meeting in Bogota with the Vice President of Colombia. On her way back to the airport to return home, she is kidnapped and held in a jungle prison for a half-billion dollar ransom in gold by the drug/rebel cartel (FARC) and Al Qaeda forces escaped from the too-dangerous-to-live-anymore Pakistan (the actual American ambassador to Columbia is a woman, and the State Department has issued continuous warnings of Al Qaeda growing in South America!).

If any word gets out to the world that she is being held, she will be killed. No troops can be sent in to rescue her. That is, officially. The United States has seventy two hours to pay the ransom, or rescue her, or see her killed.

We send in…. one man…. and one dog.

My screenplay, a built-in, tent pole for TV/cable series and/or feature sequels -- WAR DOG -- is that story …

    Creative Notes:
I developed a screenplay called THE WAR DOGS, about the use of ‘war dogs’ by the U.S. military during the Vietnam War, only to discover that a Vietnam film wasn't in the cards, at least for me ... but everyone responded enthusiastically to the idea of an action feature about WAR DOGS used by American soldiers during combat missions…a concept with intrinsic international audience appeal.
