A man wants to study the everyday financial decisions of a successful investor and one of the richest men in the world, replicating the results in software by putting him in a virtual computer generated world called the calculator.
Synopsis:Simon is an expert calculator, someone who uses mathematical calculations to build virtual reality worlds and control them. He is currently working on a project to study and capture the behavioral patterns of two professional card counters in a casino. The data is then saved in software that can later detect other card counters.
The card counters do not know they are in a virtual world as they are drugged without their knowledge just before they sleep, when they wake up, they wake up inside a room that is just like theirs, but in reality is just a big white room with magnetic objects bonded together to form each and every object in the real room, as the card counters continue their day to day activity, the particles take on the shape of everything around them as necessary.
Jones, a well connected wealthy man and an admirer of Simon's work approaches Simon to help him study and capture the behavioral patterns of Andre, successful financial investor and seventh richest man in the world, offering Simon a calculator company license in return. Simon refuses at first but with further persuasion he agrees as long as he does not get into trouble with the FBI or Anti - Calculation Unit - ACU (a government agency setup to check and monitor calculation activities), which Jones assures him, he won’t.
Jones and Simon fly to a deserted mansion that has been built for the job. Andre and his five year old grandchild, Alex are quietly kidnapped at night after been drugged and are placed into calculator rooms. Alex was not initially planned for as he only began to stay with Andre some days before the kidnap not long after Andre realized he had cancer. Alex is a problem, as it is very difficult to calculate little children because of their innocent and unstable behavior but Jones convinces Simon he can do it, and they start work.
The FBI is called into Andre's disappearance, and the head of the team, Mike is able to put things together that it might be a kidnap and Andre might be in a calculator. He contacts ACU and together they try to look for Andre and Alex.
Before Jones and Simon could finish calculating Andre, ACU finds out their location and prepare an assault team. Jones finds out FBI/ACU is coming for him through a mole in one of the agencies, he decides to obliterate all evidence at the mansion by blowing up Simon, Nicole (Simon's handler and new found girlfriend in the mansion) and Simon's team mates to pieces. Nicole coincidently finds this out when she sees Jake (Jones's no nonsense right hand man) running down the stairs with a hand luggage, but sees the same Jake in their lab working with them, she figures this must be a calculated Jake and the real Jake ran away . She finally convinces disbelieving Simon to run away before the mansion is blown up.
Jones flees before the security agents get to the blown mansion and drop Andre and Alex at a hospital hoping someone would find them. By the time the security agents reach the mansion, it has been blown to smithereens and Jones, Andre and Alex are nowhere to be found. Injured Simon and Nicole come out of hiding in the woods and are immediately arrested.
After Mike questions Simon, he tells them the whole story but there is no evidence against Jones, so Simon goes about helping to find out the inside staff who helped Jones in the kidnap in the hope that he might have evidence to nail Jones.
