Synopsis:
1983 is more than just a year in the 80’s. It is also when one of the biggest movies of all times came out, Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. In the spring of 83’ in a small town in South Dakota lived Lindsay Electric Argyle. Lindsay is a young, good looking 22 year old guy who is trapped in his small town with dreams of moving to a big city to be a Science Fiction writer. After Lindsay breaks up with his girlfriend and his crazy Grandfather the Colonel passes away. Lindsay’s Mother has a big surprise for him. Lindsay mother who is former hippy of the sixties and maybe have sampled too many drugs in her day reveals the whereabouts of Lindsay’s long lost father. Lindsay goes from playing Star Wars and Risk with his goofy buddies in South Dakota to traveling out to San Francisco to meet his father.
From the moment Lindsay and his father Richard “Big Dick” McKenzie meet its complete awkwardness. Big Dick is a Gay hot shot injury lawyer. Realizing they are complete opposites and have nothing in common Lindsay first day with his dad is surrounded by a lot of tension. Thing’s then get really uncomfortable when Lindsay meets his Dad’s boyfriend, Stanley. Stanley is an aerobics instructor who is more in love with himself than anything else. Lindsay thinks he is in San Francisco to spend some time with his dad but Big Dick has other plans. He pawns Lindsay off on his brother Jerry who is a foul mouth drunk tow truck driver. Then Jerry pays the beautiful Olivia (the sister of one of his coworkers) to keep Lindsay occupied. Lindsay and Olivia hit it off and share there love for Star Wars. After hanging out with Olivia and drinking a little moonshine Lindsay comes home and gets into a fight with Big Dick.
Just as it seems like all hope is lost Lindsay finally does get to spend some quality time with Big Dick. They have a nice day at the amusement park and for the first time the oddball polar opposite father and son seem to bond. Things look like they might be alright but Big Dick can’t separate work from his new found son. Lindsay gets blown off for the last time and decides to go back home to South Dakota. With the help of Stanley and Olivia and the Star Wars movies, Big Dick Realizes the mistake’s he made with Lindsay.
After coming home to South Dakota Lindsay packs his things and moves to Virginia Beach to start a job. Richard then flies everyone from South Dakota and San Francisco out to throw a surprise party for Lindsay. Lindsay ultimately succumbs to the act of Richard making an attempt to be his father, so Lindsay decides to give Richard another chance and start over fresh.
