28 Days Later meets Inception

Synopsis:
Aeva and Shev are sisters who escaped the end of the world. Tucked away from the remnants of humanity, they live on a remote farm in the woods. When Shev is almost bitten by a black widow, Aeva resolves to visit the nearest town for medical supplies. She retrieves the supplies, but is followed during her return to the farm house. That night, she is wakened by dark shapes roaming outside. She hides with Shev in a hidden alcove as the house is ransacked, and in the morning the two flee the house.
Waylaid soon thereafter by two woodsmen, Dastin and his Father, Aeva and Shev are forced to spend the night with them. Aeva tries to unsuccessfully to keep little Shev awake, but fails. Instantly Dastin's father transforms into a being of darkness, and Dastin is forced to shoot him.
Aeva and Shev leave the next morning, but the smitten Dastin pursues and convinces them to visit the nearest town to trade their rifles for supplies. At the town, Aeva is arrested for slashing a man with her knife, and the three spend the night in a jail cell. Again Aeva fails to keep Shev awake, and the moment the little girl falls asleep the town erupts in chaos. Werewolves roam the streets, killing indiscriminately. The next morning, Dastin picks the lock and frees the three of them, and they leave that city behind.
A group intercepts them. Calling themselves the Oneiroi, the Protectors of the Dream, they bow before Shev. The leader, Garaldine, claims that they have been looking for her for 700 years. He promises to teach the little girl how to control her dreams, and how to use them to benefit to the world. "There will be no more monsters," says he. Garaldine takes them to his camp, and proceeds to educate Shev , first teaching her how to distinguish between the waking world and the dream world. During the second night, Aeva leads Dastin to a quite area of the camp, and finally gives herself to him. The next morning when she awakens, Garaldine informs her that Shev has been lost to the dream, and can't be awakened. Ever. Aeva forces Garaldine to take her into Shev's dream, along with Dastin and another Oneiroi.
In the dream, they find themselves in a sandstorm. Pursued by desert spiders, they reach a malachite city, and inside discover a statue of Shev. Aeva kills herself in front of that statue, despite a warning from Garaldine, and the group finds themselves brought deeper into the dream. They are all bound to seats in a dark chamber, Shev included. Dastin's father makes an entrance, wrapped in darkness. One by one the members of the group are pulled away into the blackness. Finally Aeva convinces Shev that this is all a dream, that she is in control of it all, and forces her to imagine home. The darkness becomes white.
Aeva and Shev find themselves are at the farm once more, repeating tasks that were seen at the beginning of the movie. Aeva can't shake a sense of deja vu. Finally when she and Shev are hiding once more in the alcove as the house is ransacked, Aeva performs a dream test, and discovers that yes she is still within the dream. She emerges from the alcove, and discovers that Garaldine and Dastin are the invaders of their house. She helps them fend off a giant spider, and they take Shev away from the house, and waken at last.
Back in the camp, Garaldine forgot to take the Precautions Against the Dream, against bringing anything into the waking world. And so the camp is attacked. Aeva flees with Shev, pursued by werewolves. The two of them are caught in a net trap, and narrowly escape to the tree as Dastin's father, wrapped in darkness, makes an appearance. He turns the wolves into his servants, and returns to the camp, narrowly missing Aeva and Shev. That night, Aeva awakens to find Shev gone. Knowing that she went back to the camp to save Garaldine, Aeva herself returns. She is taken prisoner, and is forced to watch as Dastin's father prepares a fire to sacrifice Shev. Before Shev dies, Garaldine reveals that Aeva is the one who was Forging the Dreams all this time, while awake. Aeva uses her unrealized power now, and destroys Dastin's father, and banishes the darkness.
Aeva leaves the camp with Shev, and together they make their way down a river valley, leaving the world behind them once more.
