THIS VERSION FOR REVIEW. Polished my first revision. It's still a page-one rewrite. Upped the stakes by creating an impossible situation for the hero: 3 very powerful villains. Improved the main character throughline and arc. Injected a more fantastical origin for the Undead which ties into the main villain. All-in-all, this is cleaner than my first revision. (THE MUMMY meets CLASH OF THE TITANS).

I was revamping the entire story but using real time and people with things such that of. You can't write a story about 9 11 without G. Bush and to make the story with one emperor during 300 ad would be massively wrong.
  • Script 123 - David's 4th Draft
    08/31/11
    Creative Notes:
Tweaked a number of lines at the end to further establish continuity. My screenplay combines the story of the hero gladiator despised by the aristocracy, with the classic zombie outbreak tale, all leading up to an explanation for one of the greatest tragedies in ancient history, and opening the doors for a much larger, classic zombie franchise.
  • Script 122 - Chris's 1st Draft
    08/31/11
    Creative Notes:
More akin to Game of Thrones or LOTRs and Gladiator in regard to style and drama than some of the other movies suggested by AS. Think LOTRs with Rome as Middle Earth and undead instead of orcs. Hopefully there is some merit to those comparisons.

This draft emphasizes characters, dialogue, and plot, succinct descriptions.
  • Script 121 - Joe's 1st Draft
    08/31/11
    Creative Notes:
A major revision. The zombies have been given a mystical orgin, at the hands of the witch queen Nakato and her demon brother Amadi. Titus and his fellow heroes have been made more likable. There is more betrayal and deception as Quintus tries to take over the empire by killing Flavius. Just like a true zombie movie, the only cure is to kill them all. Sorry about the type-o's, it was a rush entry.

    08/31/11
    Creative Notes:
Flavius wants Rome to last forever. He kills the emperor and uses a demon to destroy Rome's enemies. Later he is killed but rises as a zombie to rule a Rome of the undead that can last forever. Titus is the son of the slain emperor. He becomes a gladiator and wants revenge and to clear his father's name. The zombie outbreak is due to the demon who was betrayed and wants revenge.

    08/31/11
    Creative Notes:
DRAFT 3: better connected the hero and the villain's conflict. The zombies are quicker and more dangerous. The dialogue is more concise in a number of places, but the story as a whole is still strongly character-driven. Definitely worth a read!
  • Script 117 - Glen's 3rd Draft
    08/31/11
    Creative Notes:
Version 3 is a few adjustments from Version 2. This is a completely new angle from my first draft. Better hook, better character arc for Titus, new villain, zombies are now dead gladiators from the past, zombie elephants, kept the elephant scene AS liked. A Visigoth king calls upon 600 years of dead gladiators for an army to destroy Rome from the inside out.
  • Script 116 - Sean's 1st Draft
    08/31/11
    Creative Notes:
Villains and plot twists and magic, oh my!

I've inserted a rather unfriendly villain, hellbent on revenge.
Titus struggles to come to terms with his past actions.
A pinch of comic relief, a dash of zombie gore, a smidgeon of romance. Baked at 666 degrees for 114 minutes.

99% new dialogue. 20% new characters. 40% new action sequences (had to keep the elephants).
    And 30% more decapitations.

I made Titus the son of Flavius and made Quintus the villain behind the Zombie incursion, and I modified Titus's character to make him more admirable. Lavinia became the adopted daughter of Flavius and a woman of better virtue. I tightened the dialogue in several scenes. I also gave the story a mystical tinge.

Hurricane Irene forced me to post draft 1 too early. This is the version I wanted to post, but couldn't.

    Tighter, more cohesive story.
    Shorter, or eliminated speeches.
    Shorter, more filmable action.

Thank you for taking the time to read my screenplay. I welcome feedback and full-blown reviews, and am very appreciative of the time spent not only reading my work, but commenting.

    Creative Notes:
Titus is on the down slope of his gladiatorial career. The zombies are from the underworld. The villain is backed by a deity. Lavinia is Titus's wife from before they were captured and made slaves. Yeah, it's a total rewrite, although I did work in a lot of the great action sequences and kept the same basic characters.

    Creative Notes:
MY FINAL REWRITE. I'm in the group that thinks a completely new story is not a rewrite. Thus, first half generally follows original, though dialog is modified. Based on reviews, revised formatting, removed redundancies and fixed errors. Justified Titus' and Lavinia's motives better. Removed unnecessary scenes. Rewrote the ending (again) to focus more on Titus and build to a big climax.
  • Script 106 - A. D.'s 1st Draft

My original take, page one rewrite. Integrated Story Dept notes:
-Hero's backstory, supernatural origins, villain. Created new myth - Nocturnals.
A loyal Thracian Gladiator Trainer, & a Gladiator on verge of retirement, battle zombies in Ancient Rome to save the world from a zombie army summoned by a sinister force and commanded by an evil magistrate determined to take over Rome at all costs.
  • Script 104 - Jim's 2nd Draft
    08/31/11
    Creative Notes:
My intent in this draft was to more fully realize the potential inherent in the ZvG premise. With the notes from Amazon in mind, I took an approach that allowed me to keep most of the great act 1 & 2 action scenes. I tried to keep the spirit of the original and not let the story take itself too seriously. One more draft would have been nice, but alas... time waits for no man or zombie.
  • Script 103 - J. H.'s 1st Draft
    08/31/11
    Creative Notes:
This is a page 1 rewrite. This is a completely new story based on the Studio notes. The rewrite does the following : creates a more salient antagonist; adds a supernatural origin; creates stronger, compelling characters ; and creates a specific line of succession for sequels. Aspects kept include a massive battle between Roman forces & the undead and a very different elephant rampage scene.

    Page one rewrite.

Nzambi, a Bakongo deity from Africa is the source of the zombies in this draft.

This can be considered a zombie origin story.

Nzambi is a very old African god that gave rise to Zombi, a snake-deity of the West African Vodun Religion. This in turn gave rise to Hatian Vodou, from which the notion of zombies first arose.
  • Script 98 - Larry's 2nd Draft
    08/31/11
    Creative Notes:
Complete rewrite follows AS notes. Kept names, redid all else for perfect blockbuster fare: plenty of gore and action supplement a surprisingly solid plot. B-movie concept meets A-list action! Titus is a slave with a dark secret. Mystical zombie origin introduced in a shocking prologue. Primary villain(s) are ambitious Roman leaders seeking to exploit the chaos & the zombie horde. This one rocks!
  • Script 97 - Thomas's 1st Draft
    08/31/11
    Creative Notes:
Written in 10 days. After about page 12, the script was written from scratch. Did not have time to do research so not historically accurate (if you couldn't tell from the zombies) although I think it could use some basis in reality. Spent more time on our core group of characters and less time on wolves and Gods. Mostly I tried to write what I felt the title promised: namely Zombies v Gladiators!
  • Script 96 - Kristina's 1st Draft
    08/31/11
    Creative Notes:
I kept most of Michael's storyline, but made a couple of changes to characters. Lavinia is a stronger character in my version, and the slave gives up more information about the wolf. I changed how quickly the infected become full fledged zombies - they actually have to die first and then transform. The ending is slightly different as well.

  • Script 93 - Elias's 1st Draft
    08/31/11
    Creative Notes:
I changed the cause of the whole 'zombifying' process to a supernatural one, as I'm sure many did. It's more attuned to the Roman Mythology, though I took some liberties to make it work. Lavinia doesn't stay with Titus (*Spoiler Alert* The sacrifice goes through), Octavius is a giant albino with purple eyes, the zombies don't heal, and Lavinia arrows the hell out of Quintus. Funtimes.

    Creative Notes:
More visceral carnage. New zombie origin. New tumultuous history between Titus and Flavius. Titus is a more charming badass. Flavius is an even more despicable a-hole. Kept some of the fun set pieces. Improved others. Added some new ones, including a final showdown between Titus and Flavius as Human and Zombie armies duke it out. New ending.

    And it's now a musical.

    Kidding.
  • Script 89 - Antony's 1st Draft
    08/31/11
    Creative Notes:
Titus is a more flawed character, a vain superstar in search of glory, but upon being thrust into the zombie plague he must grow and change. The zombies now have a more mystical/magical origin, rooted in human sin rather than evil. My villain is a sociopath who takes advantage of the situation rather than causes it. I kept the best set pieces from the original, but gave them my own spin.
  • Script 88 - Daniel's 1st Draft
    08/31/11
    Creative Notes:
I streamlined the opening, rearranging the order of events for a better set up. A large portion of my work was in dialogue. Much of it was in speeches or characters stating the themes straight out. I worked to make it more natural and to communicate important information in conversation. I also beefed and streamlined the action at several points.
  • Script 87 - Robert's 2nd Draft

    Creative Notes:
Went with an African Voodoo curse for the propagation of Zombie-ism. Introduced the idea of Demigods having a hand in things. Left the end of the story open for possible sequel stories. Corrected some format issues that were in my first draft.
  • Script 86 - David's 2nd Draft

I set it in Pompeii (79 CE). Changed gladiator TITUS' name to REMUS since actual Emperor's named Titus. Remus' story improved. Villain is now GOVERNOR Flavius with better drive- more evil! Mystic origin of the zombie, but left open medical possibilities. Enhanced supporting characters and side plots. Ending packs a punch with a surprising conclusion.

Page 1 rewrite. I started it in Nero times. And Nero discovered a Zombie from the black plague. The zombie turns Nero into a zombie. Showed Atticus (my Titus) as a boy who was the son of Christians... Showed Atticus parents get slain by Nero's guards. Had Nero held in captivity until 81 A.D. When the colosseum was finished. Domitian is Emperor. A better romance and a better motivation for Atticus.

Such a fun script and great idea. Thanks to the creators for sharing, I hope my vision of your work pleases. Kept the great set pieces that were fresh (though moved them around), some of the great lines, shored up the Roman history (thanks Prof Kliener) with artistic liberties, added a character or two to open the potential audience and focused on making the characters more dimensional.

In my version Lavinia is a Voodoo Priestess and Octavius is now Octavia; Rome's only female gladiator and a love interest for Titus. The backstory of the Zombie virus is true to its Voodoo origins and Titus wears a gimp costume!
  • Script 75 - Philip's 1st Draft
    08/30/11
    Creative Notes:
It’s 64 AD, the Great Fire, Nero and his mind-state, and real people and events broaden and deepen story and characters. Good reasons are shown why Zombies are slow and stupid (except one) – and why that one is fast. A strong God/Monster with twists lifts us to a standout Zombiefest climax. Lavinia's empathy with her is key to the final emotional payoff. A movie for both sexes.

I did a complete revamp on Lavinia’s character. Now she has a new name (Cassia), a new status (daughter of Flavius) and she is determined to marry Titus. Added Orcus. Made Quintus duplicitous from page 1.

Our vibe is the Mummy: "Bad guy wants girl, hero has to save her." Kept all the cool action scenes. Added flying zombies, Cerberus, poison, kidnapping and human sacrifice.

    Creative Notes:
The draft aims for an international and four-quadrant audience: explosions, blood, sex – and, of course, zombies – for men under 25; swords and sandals for men over 25; romance with a sensitive hero, plus a kick-ass young female lead, for women under 25; and a strong older woman with her pick of men for women over 25.
  • Script 70 - Alejandro's 1st Draft
    08/29/11
    Creative Notes:
Changed from a scientific explanation and cure to a supernatural one
Gave Lavinia a more active participation and a different role
Changed Titus' motivations - now it's his son and an event in the past
Added a couple more fights with swords and weapons
Changed the era to the end of the Republic (43BC). I think audiences would be more identified with a Republic than an Empire
    Added humor
  • Script 69 - Joseph's 1st Draft
    08/29/11
    Creative Notes:
My revision used the Amazon Studio Notes as a guide. Deepening the characters and giving the audience a rooting interest in Titus was a primary concern. I stayed consistent with the tone of the original which was serious with some banter between the characters. My other project here (Z-MAN) is a horror/comedy and I didn't want to repeat that effort.

Thank you very much for this opportunity.
  • Script 68 - Ben's 2nd Draft
    08/29/11
    Creative Notes:
Based on a true story. I kept the same time period (312 A.D.). I introduced two characters from history, Constantine and Helena. I applied A.S.'s notes. This is a darker story than the original. With modifying the second Act, I was able to keep much of the exciting action sequences from the original story.
  • Script 67 - Taylor's 1st Draft

Please read version four, tighter draft. Thanks!
  • Script 66 - Louis's 1st Draft
    08/29/11
    Creative Notes:
When I read the original script I remembered that Christianity was made the State religion of Rome around that time and the spine of my revision hints at how that edict was brought about by the Zombie invasion. One of the ways I've done that is by adding a character named Constantine who is based on the first Christian emperor of Rome.

  • Script 64 - Adam's 1st Draft
    08/29/11
    Creative Notes:
Follow the AS notes. Very tight, taunt version. Huge adventure, Raiders or Mummy. Zombie origin story, based on Roman Mythology and with historical references. War breaks out between the Senate and Flavius, with Titus and Lavinia, both kickass Gladiators, in the middle with a little time for a budding romance. We broadened the concept to be an epic 4 quadrant franchise-ready film.

  • Script 61 - Cara's 2nd Draft
    08/29/11
    Creative Notes:
Grammar has been edited, and from the original version the plot is deeper and characters more involved. With the addition of the African Priestess, letting the curse get out of hand, a whole new twist is added to the story.
  • Script 60 - Dean's 1st Draft
    08/29/11
    Creative Notes:
Pretty much a complete rewrite -- Added a mystical angle as the source of the zombies and focused on a small band of gladiators as the heroes. Changed the main hero to Dacian, a foreigner new to Rome. The romantic lead is now an African shamaness. New twists to the evil emperor and the champion gladiator. Also added interesting locations and character backgrounds drawn from Roman history.
  • Script 59 - Cara's 1st Draft
    08/29/11
    Creative Notes:
This revision includes a deeper plot, more diverse characters, and an epic battle unlike any other. In Quintus' aim to gain power, he forces an African Priestess to summon a curse...but for the sake of her people she goes too far. Titus and Lavinia unknowingly become the only option for Rome's survival. With the help of friends, they discover the truth and fight for the ideal of Rome.
  • Script 58 - Ian's 2nd Draft
    08/28/11
    Creative Notes:
Better intro, fleshed out all the characters and smoothed out the dialogue. Added additional action sequences and made the love story with Lavinia a lot more believable. Titus has unique origin slowly revealed during the story. Also made Quintus and Flavius more despicable as well as reasons to kill Titus. Made a shaman the lead villain creating zombies via voodoo curse who controls the zombies.
  • Script 57 - Joseph's 2nd Draft
    08/28/11
    Creative Notes:
Tweaked dialogue. Added more details to action scenes. Titus has a better reveal in the end. Brennus wants a zombie empire to rule over. A complete rewrite. Different story, revolving around the sack of Rome in 410.
  • Script 56 - Lauri's 1st Draft
    08/28/11
    Creative Notes:
PLEASE READ SECOND DRAFT. The zombies now have a magical origin and cure, from the West African voodoun tradition.

There’s a new villain, who unleashes the zombie curse.

Titus is modeled on Maximus – “very strong but very loving” – and on Michael Fassbender’s Magneto – a sensitive bad ass with a sense of humor. He’s fighting not only for his survival but also for his humanity.
  • Script 55 - Nathan's 1st Draft
    08/28/11
    Creative Notes:
I enjoy fantastic horror, and I love mythology. Zombie films have often fallen flat for me, so I decided I would take this opportunity to be unfaithful to the tropes and maybe create something people not into the genre can enjoy. Irene permitting, there will be a second draft forthcoming with more exacting editing down.
  • Script 54 - Bard's 2nd Draft
    08/27/11
    Creative Notes:
Cleaner and meaner than the first draft. Other than that, my version hasn't changed much. Again, my version is based on the suggestions by Amazon. Characters are better established, relationships better defined. A major villain is supplied as a mastermind of the conspiracy. Dialogue is cleaned up, ending is changed from the original script. This draft is for reviews and the contest.

  • Script 52 - Bernard's 1st Draft
    08/27/11
    Creative Notes:
I kept the heart of it, since we wouldn't be here otherwise, but changed things as I saw fit (and to address AS notes). There is a new origin for the plague, new antagonist, different characters survived (and perished) and the last third of the story is completely different.
  • Script 50 - Bard's 1st Draft
    08/26/11
    Creative Notes:
Basically, I stuck to the suggestions by Amazon Studios. Fleshed out the characters, added a major villain who masterminds the events. The dynamics between the characters is tighter. The only major changes was the conclusion, which I entirely rewrote from the 'cure' that the original script offered. My ending ties the reversion of the plague directly in to the battle with the arch-villain.
  • Script 49 - .'s 4th Draft
    08/26/11
  • Script 48 - David's 1st Draft
    08/26/11
    Creative Notes:
Evil sorcerer Macrianus plans to create an invincible army by using an Assyrian cuneiform tablet hidden away in a tomb in Southwest Africa over a thousand years earlier.
My version addressed the notes by adding a villain, humor, some subtext and depth to the characters.

(A hurricane threatens to knock out the internet until beyond the deadline, so I am putting up this not quite finished version.)
  • Script 47 - Karl Peter's 2nd Draft
    08/26/11
    Creative Notes:
MUMMY franchise version. (Note: This is my second submission, a different script from the 1st Draft) This slapstick-screwball adventure is in-keeping with the original script and raises the stakes at every given opportunity. Antagonist is deadlier. Protagonist is a more rounded, romantic husband, father and adventurer. Bruckheimer style. HIGH CONCEPT.
  • Script 46 - Alex's 1st Draft
    08/26/11
    Creative Notes:
In this version, the zombies were created for a purpose. New characters are introduced. Ancient Gods play a role. A darker ending.

  • Script 39 - David's 1st Draft
    08/23/11
    Creative Notes:
This is a complete rewrite. I kept most of the main characters and the story structure except for the ending. I changed the time period to when the Colosseum was built, used the actual emperor from this period, and removed references to medieval weaponry. Also replaced the cure for zombieism, resserecting the dead and granting of immortality with a more realistic ending.
  • Script 38 - Rick's 4th Draft
    08/23/11
    Creative Notes:
I have followed the Amazon Studio notes. Backstory of Titus has been added, giving him more motivation. There is a true villian with a evil, self serving people. A lot of new action sequences have been added. The entire final act has been rewritten. I have removed everything about the antidote and have an ending more in line with Roman mythology.

    08/20/11
    Creative Notes:
This is a short Test Movie Proposal trailer. Sorry, it's quite short. The characters and set designs are created and rendered in 3D applications. If selected, my team intends to develop this Test Movie in 3D storyboard along with some scenes fully generated in 3D Animation.

    Thanks for watching. Enjoy.

    08/18/11
    Creative Notes:
We followed AS notes for revision: Broadened Titus character, Made supernatural reasons for Zombie, and broadened the bad guy. Did away with all things WOLFBEAST and ANTIDOTE. Fully entrenched the zombies into Roman Mythology and the God of the Underworld, Orcus. Changed a few characters, mainly: Arrias, now a Senator and Lavinia, a kickass female Gladiator. More than 50% different, kept middle.
  • Script 34 - Agus's 1st Draft
    08/18/11
    Creative Notes:
The Gods in Roman mythology are added.
  • Script 33 - Andrew's 1st Draft
    08/18/11
    Creative Notes:
I changed the ending. In my revision there is no longer a cure. Lavinia does not get cured. I decreased Titus' amount of dialogue. Valerius has more dialogue and more scenes. He also has more importance in the ending. I added a few more characters.
  • Script 31 - .'s 1st Draft
    08/15/11
  • Script 30 - Glen's 1st Draft
    08/10/11
    Creative Notes:
A complete PAGE 1 rewrite! Titus has a better character arc and a different journey. The zombies have both a different origin and an end. The villain, other than the zombies, is introduced. Plays on: The Plague of Justinian; with use of the "punisher of broken oaths", Orcus. Also, the zombies "learn", signifying that while they are still flesh eating carcasses of evil...they have minds.

  • Script 25 - Tom's 6th Draft
    07/30/11
    Creative Notes:
Adds a definitive end for Drusis.
  • Script 24 - Tom's 5th Draft
    07/30/11
    Creative Notes:
Yep, another one. This one cuts another line of dialogue, introduces Mars earlier, adding another little mystery, gives Drusis an end, of sorts, and adds a scene showing some Romans toward the end of the film who radically need Titus's help.
  • Script 23 - Tom's 4th Draft
    07/29/11
    Creative Notes:
Humor that doesn't seem to work has been removed, resulting in slight dialogue changes.
  • Script 22 - Tom's 2nd Draft
    07/28/11
    Creative Notes:
A small amount of dialogue has been added, expanding Titus's backstory, explaining his aspirations. Some clarifying dialogue has been added in regard to Lavinia and her relationship with Quintus. One exchange has been added between Titus and Jupiter.
  • Script 21 - Karl Peter's 1st Draft
    07/27/11
    Creative Notes:
Total rewrite with love, tragedy and adventure, based on the most famous Orphic Tale 'Search For Eurydice'. I've upgraded the Zombie theme to that of great Mythical Beasts with motives and arc. This is a gritty exploration of death based on the Greek epic which contains none other than 'The Golden Fleece'.
  • Script 20 - Tom's 1st Draft
    07/26/11
    Creative Notes:
Some dialogue has been polished, some scenes have been tightened or slightly altered. Inconspicuous comedy has been added to heighten the fun. Two subplots have been added: one, Titus is the son of Jupiter, king of the Gods, and two, the zombie plague was orchestrated by Quintus through a scheme with Mars, God of War. The final third-or-so of the script is almost completely original material.
  • Script 17 - Tommy's 2nd Draft
    07/20/11
    Creative Notes:
Tried to get rid of anything overly anachronistic in language. Added some more depth to characters, mostly Titus and Quintus. Added a scene with Quintus and Flavius directly influencing the Zombie outbreak, giving Quintus more "blame" for allowing it to happen (and creating a second zombie for Titus' arena fight). Added an early line where Kahotep tries to explain the legend but is ignored.
  • Script 13 - Tommy's 1st Draft
    07/12/11
    Creative Notes:
Changed origin to Egyptian roots, added a scene to explain and threaded the legend over the story. The slave has a larger role. Changed a lot of dialogue. Titus is more of a wise cracker than a straight man. Lavinia and him flirt a lot more, building up the romance. Flavius is young and brattier.
I didn't add a villain, but gave a reason Romans went to Egypt. Third act incorporates the lore.
  • Script 12 - Rick's 3rd Draft
    07/11/11
    Creative Notes:
In addition to my last revision, I enhanced some fight scenes, gave an explanation why the wolf was turning people into zombies, and provided more characterization and ego to Titus. I also added some more information to make Flavius more of a super-villian.
  • Script 10 - Rick's 2nd Draft
    07/10/11
    Creative Notes:
I added a fight scene at the beginning of the film to bring in action sooner and also bring in the zombie concept sooner. It also ties in the end of the film nicely. I edited some dialogue and added a good bit of dialogue. I greatly enhanced the romance concept to make the film more appealing for female viewers. I also added a new ending to the script. Also, made it more historically accurate.
  • Script 7 - Allen's 1st Draft
    07/06/11
    Creative Notes:
Sorry I didn't post this sooner, but I did else where on the site because I'm just learning my way around. This is following all the notes that Amazon gave out.
  • Script 6 - Vernon's 2nd Draft
    07/02/11
    Creative Notes:
Changed wolf to Wild Man and eliminated Zombie animals that were left hanging in the original. Changed the story so that Titus winds up as Roman Emperor.
  • Script 5 - Jamster's 1st Draft
    06/30/11
    Creative Notes:
    I created a 'mystery' Character-Narrator - framing device/intrigue

I tried to make things flow better, tweaked, lost, changed scenes/character/action...

I put this up before June deadline for a crack at the semis... then I read about the suspension due to the separate Aug. comp. Oh well - lol!!

I've put in a fair amount of work but have much more to come.

Enjoy - time to crack on!
  • Script 4 - Vernon's 1st Draft
    06/30/11
    Creative Notes:
Original script was formatted in named paragraph styles and so was very easy to revise. This draft is a general overall edit for un-film able action and more strict adherence to PRESENT TENSE, ACTIVE VOICE, AND STRONG ACTION VERBS.
  • Script 3 - Alejandro's 1st Draft
    05/08/11
    Creative Notes:
This is my first revision. I tried to cut out some of the fat and make it an easier, quicker read. This cut back almost 20 pages without drastically changing the story. More of a studio-friendly reading script. Great concept Michael!!!!
  • Script 2 - Ian's 1st Draft
    05/04/11
    Creative Notes:
Tightened up the dialogue and descriptions, trimmed away extra scenes, changed the formatting so that shots start with a new line and removed internal descriptions as well as camera angles.
Also set up at the beginning that the slave gives a prophetic warning that is not heeded vs making him so passive.
