In order to be promoted to a higher level a wizard must change the beliefs of a rock singer who doesn’t believe in the mystical world, dragging her into a mysterious castle on an extreme treasure hunt. He doesn’t know that it is all a colossal joke...
Synopsis: Did you know that some wizards must pass a test to be promoted to a higher level, and they have only one chance per year? Dagon – an English wizard who is still at the bottom level for he is too zealous - this year must try to change the beliefs of Lily, a young US rock singer who doesn’t believe in magic. Dagon reaches Los Angeles and becomes Lily’s bodyguard. They like each other a lot, but as he tries to change her beliefs they get into conflict, and his spells neither convince her, nor keep her from mistreating him. The wizard loses his temper and plays a nasty trick on her: Lily loses everything she has - money, sports car, house and even her voice - but in spite of this, she still can’t believe. Dagon is called back to the wizard world, and since this is the umpteenth test he hasn’t passed, he will have another chance in 7 years time. He can’t wait so long, and so the jury gives him a further chance; but if he doesn’t pass this time, he’ll remain on the first level forever. Dagon accepts the challenge: in addition to converting Lily, he must win with her a contest for "model parents." And he has only one day to do it in!
Dagon returns to L.A. as Lily is striving to solve the awful situation he has cre-ated for her. She can’t, and everybody thinks she has gone mad. She realizes that Dagon is involved in the matter, but also that he is the only one who can help her to get back what she has lost. So, he convinces her to follow him in his endeavour, promising that if he succeeds, she will regain everything. After many adventurous ups and downs, they discover the place where the model parents contest is held. It’s a strange castle, an ex-orphanage that has been closed because the persons in charge - Mrs. Bim, Mrs. Boom and Mr. Bam - were too elderly to manage it. All the children were given up for adop-tion, but Flick and Flock - two obnoxious kids - were left as nobody wanted to take them. The three half dotard elders have then organized the contest, an extreme contest in which they offer a mysterious prize and the adoption of the two kids, but no-one has so far succeeded in passing the tests.
Dagon & Lily join the wild and unpredictable contest. A mischief-making masked man accompanies them and the two kids through seven trials in seven rooms; in each room they must solve a riddle concerning to discover the quality that a model parent should possess, and use it to pass the tests. But as the kids create all kinds of problems and the masked man pesters everyone with his tricks, Dagon & Lily always get confused, they do not pass the tests and everything ends in a big mess. Dagon is called back to the wizard world; the jury suggests that he give up the test and spend seven years waiting for his next chance, rather than give up forever. But he realizes that he is himself responsible for his failure, and decides to do his best to go all the way to the end of his mission.
Dagon convinces Mrs. Bim, Mrs. Boom and Mr. Bam to let him retrace the route in the contest with Lily and the two kids. Only too late he realizes that at the end of this game he’s not going to be the winner in any way. However, an amazing end twist is waiting for him: the entire story is all a colossal joke, in which the enemies become the allies…
