Full synopsis
Synopsis: Julian is obsessed with superheroes. His bedroom is a shrine to their comic book tales. He and is best friend are fearless, taking on super villains in the yard and middle school bullies in the playground. But every hero has his kryptonite and theirs just happens to be at the edge of their neighborhood…The Spooky Woods, a dark chasm, home to wild beasts and the ghastly Hermit, a documented cannibal. Their interests sparked by the creepy candy store owner and their path charted by the neighborhood legend, The Seal, the boys set off on a perilous trek into the heart of the Spooky Woods that will forever change their lives.

Years later, Julian is a broken soul, haunted by the past, blind to who he once was. But others remember the boy who once knew no fear, and they struggle to help him regain his courage and conquer his demons. With the aid of a little small town magic, Julian and his friends throw down the gauntlet and face all their fears on one Halloween night, a night that will redefine Julian’s past and open wide his future.

    Creative Notes:
    I wrote this at the same time as my other entry THE SADNESS. As a writing exercise, I began with the same basic characters and took them in opposite directions. One I took in a tragic direction, THE SADNESS. The other I took in a hopeful direction, LEGEND OF HEROES. There are similarities if you look closely, but they are entirely different stories, evoking entirely different emotions.
