HELL BENT

When the justice system fails a good cop he makes a deal with the devil to get retribution against the man who killed his wife and daughter.

Synopsis: When the man that killed Detective Shazad Hussain’s family in a car wreck, is let off on a technicality he slips further into a drunken stupor. Desperate, delirious and finally suicidal, Shazad believes He has nothing left in his life to loose. Shazad makes a pact with the devil. His revenge in return for all he now loves.

When Shazad comes to in the hospital emergency room the following morning he rights the pact off as a drunken nightmare. After all there’s no such thing as making a deal with the devil.

The man that killed Shazad’s family is found dead. Shot through both eyes; Shazad soon fears by the gun that only days earlier he tried using to end his own life. As evidence mounts up to prove he has made a deal with the devil and in spite of the best efforts of his devout Muslim brother Abdul and Abdul’s wife Naz to save him Shazad goes into a paranoid meltdown. Becoming aggressive, violent and very dangerous as he becomes so sure he is now in league with a demon.

Convinced the pact is real Shazad seeks help from a Blind Catholic and a suspect Fortune Teller. Both it turns out have their own devilish agendas. This demonic force kills his police partner and shows Shazad that he does have something to loose after all. Abdul and Naz.
To save those he loves Shazad hunts down the demon and prepares to do battle. Armed with a mythical sword he steps into the breach, ready to face the vile creature. Knowing the only way to undo the pact is by sacrificing himself.

When all is nearly lost its Shazad’s love for Naz that gives him the strength to stand tall, find faith and defeat the demon. He saves those he loves by sacrificing himself. In his final, peaceful breath he finds his wife and daughter waiting on the heavenly horizon.

Hell Bent is about the power of Love. How ultimately Love can over come any obsticle. Including the DEVIL.

Creative Notes:

Originally I’d planned the script to be more of a traditional Detective story that descends into the supernatural as events spiral out of control. This draft focuses more on the main character and his decisions rather than the case. The story is set in Northern England.
