When a young Marine fails to save his sergeant from Iraqi insurgents, he finds himself escorting the casket back to the states. He has four days to battle his grief and past demons, before returning to war.
Synopsis:Alabama boy, Sean Owens', hopes of going to college are crushed when his dad loses his tuition savings. Sean becomes Private Owens at the ripe age of 18. Going to Iraq is his first time leaving his home state.
Thrown into battle, Pvt Owens gun jams during a sniper attack, and lives are lost because of it. Sean and ex gang member, Pvt Gutierrez, are assigned to escort two bodies back to San Diego for funerals.
Due to a holiday flight schedule, they get two extra days of leave. Sean still wrestles with the foggy memory of the battle and his guilt, and several Marines wrestle with racial tensions that didn't exist on the field.
When Sean meets Nicky, the cousin of one of the fallen, learns to let loose and love. But she's wrestling with demons and loss of her own, and the two find they can help each other in unexpected ways.
