When game life beats real life.
Project collaboration: Open
Synopsis:
In present day southeast Asia an online game has captured the

attention of well educated teenagers. There is no violence in

the game, so most, but not all of its fans are female.

Level one play takes place in a new form of internet cafe.

These clubs are invite only and kept impeccably nice even in

the poorest neighborhoods.

Staffed by players and open 18 hours per day, a game seat

requires a reservation. In most locations seats are booked

for one to three hours weeks in advance.

Each club contains a waiting area for those with a reserved

game seat on that day. This is where most offline encounters

between players take place.

Because the reservation system is open for members to view,

players can anticipate who will be waiting with them. Good

players will have learned the play of every gamer present on

their day.

Maximizing positive outcomes.

Inside of the club there are seats for single players and

booths for two or more. Game shades are loaned like bowling

shoes, and avatar controls are built into the seating.

In game the club is reproduced in photo realistic detail and

can be interacted with through one's avatar. Level one

players have two avatars to choose from 090 and 150.

Each avatar has an autobiography. Exploration of these

autobiographies can take months of weekly play if taken

seriously. And most new players take the game VERY seriously.

Your avatar determines the rest of your game experience,

which in very real terms could decide which friends you have

in real life.

Choosing the right avatar could mean the difference between

building pleasure and mounting frustration.

In this test movie we are with 030.

030 is a level two player.

Level two players receive game systems and game shades to use

at home and on the road. Once a level two player finds a Game

Guide she might also receive free international travel to

attend meetings at clubs around the world.

This 030 has just left a real world meeting with her Game

Guide where progress on her team selection was thoroughly

analyzed, and new recruitment advice was received.

Itching to put some of these new ideas to the test she logs

in through her shades on the shuttle from the airport and

sees that one of her candidates has one hour of solo res time

in 3 hours.

She decides to offer a negotiation.

Level one's are not supposed to know about level two, but any

player who spends enough time in game will discover second

level hints at some point.

The 090 agrees enthusiastically to 030's offer.

030 logs off as the shuttle reaches her home.

She enters strokes her cat, says hey to her mom and heads to

her room to set-up. Her rig at home is a far more advanced

version than the systems at the clubs.

It has access to enormous data sets of level one play records, including graphs of physiological responses over time.

Most of a level two player's time is spent tuning this system

to automatically log, sort, and alert prospective team

members based on these data sets. Takes six team members to qualify for level three consideration.

And from what 030 can tell through her Guide, 210, who is a

level three player. You are taken care of by the game from

level three. Unlimited travel for life, with hotel stays

instead of couch surfing.

Total independence.

This is why she persuaded her mom to let her play full time

after turning 15. What's the point of school when university

graduates are living at home bored for lack of employment.

A negotiation is basically a real time exchange of most

recent level reels.

Level reels are soundtracks with short moving picture clips

composed from the stills captured in game while playing a

level experience.

Level experiences take place in luxury resorts and hotels

photo realistically reproduced in game for avatar

exploration.

These are the only places in game for two players to interact

in real time aside from the virtual copies of clubs.

You go to clubs in game mainly to plan new level experiences

with willing players. Do this successfully several times,

constantly refining your reels from each experience, and

eventually you might get noticed by a level two player.

At least that's the rumor circulated in clubs around the

world. For some it never happens. For this 030 it just has.

She's heard that level two's don't have to pay to play

anymore, that they even get free travel and lodging to attend

gatherings and events. She could only imagine.

Until now.

Decides to see if she can buy another's 3 hour res to finish

the reel for her most recent experience before her meet with this mysterious 030. Might be worth the extra expense.
