Synopsis: Set in a far-away Fairyland on the brink of war and struggling under a repressive feudal system, the story chronicles the adventures of a Princess, a civil-rights lawyer, and a demon with gender-identity issues as they journey through the country to escape the growing unrest and an imminent Troll invasion.

When the Queen of Fairyland botches a magic spell, Beezle, a cheerful but conflicted demon, is dispatched from Hell to collect her soul. In the process, he becomes interested in the Queen’s daughter, the Princess. Eager to save herself, the Queen agrees to sacrifice her daughter. But instead, she sends the Princess, accompanied by a civil-rights lawyer, Quilp, away to her uncle’s castle on the coast.

When Beezle discovers the Queen’s ploy, he sets out to catch the Princess. Eager for an adventure and a challenge, he decides to relinquish all of his magical powers and temporarily turns himself into a young woman. But the challenge soon becomes much more than what Beezle has bargained for. Before he can reach the Princess and Quilp, Beezle must survive an avalanche and multiple falls, escape a band of mercenary soldiers and one mutant dog, and outwit a pack of poisonous snakes – all while battling hunger, thirst, and injuries.

Meanwhile, the Princess and Quilp face their own share of adventures. They initially get off on the wrong foot, but as their journey continues and they encounter numerous mass graves and lynching sites along the way, they begin to understand each other as well as the harrowing state their country is in.

Eventually, the paths of the three characters cross when Beezle has to be rescued by Quilp and the Princess. The Princess nurses Beezle back to health, and a tentative relationship starts to form between them -- much to Quilp’s discomfort.

The trio continues their progress across the Fairyland together, while battling more and more obstacles – an acid river full of carnivorous fish, a cunning dwarf, and the increasing threat of Trolls. They are haunted by strange and possibly prophetic dreams, and the closer they get to the coast, the further they are from safety. As the journey nears the end, they begin to realize that the war with Trolls is inevitable and that each of them will have a role to play in the upcoming battle.
