Project collaboration: By Permission
Synopsis: 'Women of the Day' tells the story of friendship between Jane and Lyd, two women in the modern day. They have the same heartaches and concerns that have been around for ages, but the difference in this day and age is that now they just go with it. They laugh at it, because they know that the hard times only make up a small fraction of their lives.
The story is told through five slice-of-life vignettes:
'Early Risers': In the early morning, Jane and Lyd sit on a bench overlooking the ocean, as they sip their coffee. In the distance, they notice a ridiculous looking jogger and share a quick laugh at him. They realize there's been a lot of people jogging lately, but chalk it up to the country suddenly being on such a 'health kick.' They conclude that they would never want to get sucked into that lifestyle, because they would much rather spend the morning out in the fresh air, sipping their coffee.
'Parks, Partners and Pinwheels': Jane and Lyd play in the park with a toy pinwheel, that Jane had picked up from a vendor. They laugh at themselves and at each other as they act like silly children. When they take a break and sit on one of the park benches, Lyd asks Jane about a date she had the night before. Jane explains that the date was awful. He was late picking her up, he excused himself to the bathroom when the check came so Jane would have to pay, and when they left the restaurant, he asked her if she'd like to come back to his parents' house and give their couch some exercise. Lyd tells Jane that she should just get a dog, because 'they're cleaner and more loyal.'
'A Different Kind of Window Shopping': Toward the middle of the day, while peering into some store windows, Lyd tells Jane that she's fed up with men these days, and that she's considering giving up on them altogether. Jane sees her point, as she's thought about it herself. Lyd mentions that if it came down to it, she might consider starting a relationship with a woman. Again, Jane sees where she's coming from - There wouldn't be any sexist jokes, or any disrespect based on gender. Lyd asks Jane if she would ever try online dating. Jane responds with no, because she has to deal with enough losers in the real world. Lyd says she might try it, but with her luck, she'd just end up with someone she already dumped.
'Cocktail Hours and Pick Up Lines': The ladies change and do their hair and make-up and head out to the bar for some drinks and fun. In a silly mood, they take turns telling each other the lamest pick-up lines they can think of. They sip their cocktails, and get even sillier with each with line. A man in the bar comes over to them, and asks them to dinner... if they would make him breakfast. They pause, glance at each other, and burst into laughter. They politely decline his offer. As he walks away, Jane mentions to Lyd that they'll have to add that line to the list. Lyd asks Jane if she wants another drink, to which she responds 'Definitely!'
The movie then fades to black, followed by the closing credits.
The story takes place all in one day, at different hours of the day, from early morning to evening. Their topics include body image, bad dates, relationships, bisexuality, drinking and pick up lines, and all with smiles on their faces!
