Synopsis: Three Long Years is the story of Jude Donnelly, a man who has suffered a tremendous emotional setback and the multi-state odyssey of misfortune he goes on in an attempt to heal his pain.

Three years ago Jude thought he had it all: the girlfriend he thought he’d one day marry, a wonderful apartment in Manhattan and a promising career. But then one day in Baltimore something happens to Jude that kicks off a downward spiral of events causing him to lose it all.

While out taking photographs one afternoon, Jude is suddenly attacked by a gang of angry, inner-city twelve-year-olds. Instead of putting up a fight and risking having to severely hurt any of the kids (not to mention being hurt himself), Jude does what he thinks is the most rational thing- he turns and runs as fast as he can.

One week after hearing about this borderline cowardly incident Jude’s girlfriend tells him she’s not sure if she loves him enough anymore. One week after that she tells him she’s sure she doesn’t love him enough anymore and throws him out of the apartment.

Thus begins the odyssey of misfortune for Jude Donnelly.

Jude’s odyssey starts off in a basement apartment in Queens, where he is forced to move since he can’t afford to live in Manhattan alone. There he’s greeted by loud, incessant footfalls from the large immigrant family living above him, frequent and long-lasting power outages, and the lingering spirit of the mentally institutionalized man who lived in the apartment before him.

Jude’s odyssey then takes him to Vermont where he’s greeted by chefs under house arrest, thirty-five year-old women who live with their mothers and a seething redneck who goes by the name of Big Daddy.

The odyssey continues on in this bizarre manner eventually covering twelve states, but then seems to come to an abrupt halt when a tire suddenly falls off of Jude’s rusting car in southern Ohio. There he meets Stephen Essay, a male nurse who has been assigned to keep Jude up through the night because of the concussion he receives as a result of the accident.

Seemingly goodhearted and harmless at first, Stephen offers to console and rid Jude of his downward spiral. But as the night wears on, and Jude gets deeper into the telling of his odyssey, it becomes quite evident that Nurse Stephen wants to do a lot more with Jude than just console.

Will Nurse Stephen’s advances continue the odyssey for Jude, or are they just the thing that Jude needs in order to reverse his three years of misfortune?

This is the shooting script of a low budget feature film I shot some years ago that I've always wanted to remake. At the time of filming many compromises had to be made due to lack of financing, however I always believed that if funded properly it could be a fine film. Now that I have some distance, it would also be great to get some feedback and revision suggestions too. Thanks for your input!
