Two couples go "wild camping" in Scotland to escape the underlying violence of the city but must fight for their lives in the wilderness when they find they brought the violence with them.
Synopsis:
CHRIS and MADDY are an urbanite, 30-something couple, stressed by the violence which simmers beneath city life. They join up with friends, another couple JO and JOHN. Chris has a last angry phone call with a work-colleague before they set off in their Ford Explorer.
In the punishing heat, and traffic gridlock, Chris’s temper is further tested when he ends up in a road-rage duel with a customised Peugot 206 containing four shady figures, faces obscured by hoods.
They finally make it out of the city and onto the open road, only for Chris to find the Peugot appears to be following them. And now there’s two Peugots. The others are asleep, as the two Peugots begin to play on Chris’s mind. When one pulls up alongside, Chris tries to accelerate away. But he can’t and has to break suddenly to avoid a collision with an oncoming car.
They arrive in the wilderness and set up camp. Next morning, they find their peace is ruined by loud music. The music is coming from the two Peugots, parked at the bottom of the hill.
To escape the noise, they set off further into the forest to find a new campsite and discover something strange – dead forest animals have been displayed as if to warn people away. As daylight is running out, they’re forced to camp nearby another tent. In the morning they find the neighbouring tent contains the body of a young girl, who seems to have come to a violent end.
John sees a hooded figure and chases him into the woods, vanishing. The others go in search of him, getting deeper into the woods. They take time for a breather and Chris discovers a movie recorded on his phone – the murder of the girl by the hooded gang. As they continue looking for John, the trail of displayed dead animals leads them to SCOTT – a soldier hiding in the woods, A.W.O.L.
Scott refuses to help and they push on, trying to find their way back to the road. But when Maddy stumbles and cuts her leg, Scott re-appears and prevents her bleeding to death. When Chris realises Scott has lost his mind and believes they are back in Iraq, he plays along with it, so Scott will stick with them, realising they need him to survive.
Jo finds John, but the gang have decided to strike and kill Scott. Jo and John meet the same fate shortly after. Chris, who was digging a ditch to keep Maddy warm in, decides to bury her under leaves to hide her. Armed with a genade given to him by Scott, he deliberately draws the gang to him. Timing his moment, he taunts them until they all attack and then pulls the pin on the grenade, killing the entire gang and saving Maddy, but sacrificing himself in the process.
