The Riverside Incident

Several individuals are ambushed by a mysterious group of serial killers during a carpool ride to a remote resort.

Synopsis: The economy is down, and jobs are sparse. Fortunately for Jennifer, a resort three hours outside of the city has recently opened and offered her a job as a Dance Instructor. She invites her friend, Natalie, to tag along for the weekend. Along the way Mark, a motivational speaker, and Eric, a personal fitness trainer, are picked up by the resort’s carpool van. In the carpool van sits Jorge, a shady Latino ex-convict, with Leon, the resort’s driver, driving all of them to the resort.

Twenty miles after they stop to get gas, the van dies. Leon gets out and discovers that the fuel line has been cut. The group are able to catch a ride with a suspicious plumber.

The plumber takes them to an abandoned rest stop area. They all get out of the plumber's van and decide to eat at a local restaurant. Inside the restaurant, Jennifer is attacked by a killer.
They head outside and can’t find the plumber or his van anywhere. Some of them start to panic. Eric tries to keep everyone calm, and tells the group that they should get back on the road and try to find the resort. They all agree and head towards the road.

It’s dark outside when they finally find the main road. They try to hitch a ride, but there are no cars on the road. After what seems like eternity, a jeep filled with wild college kids drives by.... without stopping. They only get about 100 yards down the road, when suddenly a large tree in the road forces them to stop. They get out of the car and try to pull the tree out of the way, when they are AMBUSHED by the serial killers. The group reaches them just as the last kid is murdered. The group slowly backs away from the murder scene and continue their hike through the forbidding woods.

The killers continue to pursue the group through the woods, leading to several deadly encounters. The survivors finally reach a two story house that belongs to a small family. The owners of the house lets the group in and they tell them about their experiences with killers. They try the house phones, but the killers cut the power. While they are waiting for the power to come back on, John gets hit in the chest by a crossbow bolt. Natalie starts to bandage him, and that's when the killers plan their full attack on the house.

The group starts to barricade the house, setting up booby traps and creating weapons. The killers quickly regroup and plan their assault on the house. They want the women. The group prepares for the worst as an epic last battle occurs between the survivors and the serial killers.

Creative Notes:

"The Riverside Incident" is edgy, realistic, and includes multiple lead roles for women. Written specifically to be low budget, and includes very few locations and takes place mostly outdoors. All the suspense is in the unpredictable actions of the killers, and the chase that leads to the final showdown at the house in the woods. A great read, with character arcs for all of the leads.
