Project collaboration: By Permission
Synopsis: After we see the violent demise of the former owners, we meet STEVE and JULIA Brooks and their kids JOSEPH and LINDSEY. Steve is a Sci-Fi writer. They are moving into the new home they just purchased in Salem’s Perch, LA. Almost immediately we realize things may not be as idyllic as the Brooks think it is. Furniture seems to move about on it’s own. There’s free wireless Internet. Spooky stuff, like that. The family starts a descent into dark places in their lives. Lindsey starts dating a boy, RORY, who seems unstable and possibly dangerous. Joseph begins spending hours upon hours online and locked away from the family. Steve, who hurt his back while moving in, is starting to indulge a bit too much in the painkillers and alcohol. And Julia is becoming obsessed with her fading youth. Steve hangs out with his best friend BART, who finds the house spooky and unsettling. But being the good friend, he offers to help do some handy work around the house, and help smoke some of Steve’s pot he found in the basement. The once loving family is fraying at the seams. Lindsey, escaping the loud sounds of her parents’ lovemaking, meets a mysterious older man, JONATHAN, in the woods behind the house and starts a sexual affair with him. Steve traps what he thinks is a raccoon in the office, and Bart comes by to help capture it, but they discover it ain’t no raccoon, but rather a little grey skinned demon called a Pooka that is coming from the basement and doing bad things around the house. Now fully convinced something weird is going on, Steve and Bart enlist the help of a ghost specialist they find on Craig’s List, SHAMUS MCDUGAN, an old foul-mouthed Irishman, with lots of wild tales about demons, ghosts, and an evil leprechaun whose magic Shillelagh he stole years ago. Steve begins seeing an evil version of himself in the mirrors, which degrades him and pushes him to do the wrong thing. And he finds a beautiful BANSHEE in his shower and has wild sex with her. Julia begins seeing herself as old and wrinkled in the mirror and becomes violently despondent. She goes looking for Steve, and finds him fully clothed in the running shower, in a drug fueled stupor. She blows her lid because she just came from the bank and they’ve had their identities stolen. Shamus realizing things are disintegrating fast brings Bart to the house with a bag of everything they need to rid the house of the demons. First they get Steve, and then the three go about rescuing the family, one by one from the demons that have them in their grip. They battle sexy naked demons that bake cookies, multiply Pookas, monsters and demons from within the computer. Before the final battle, Steve, Bart and Shamus have a drunken scene in Shamus’s van, reminiscent of the scene in JAWS. Finally as Jonathan chases Julia, Lindsey and Joseph’s car, our trio beats back the demons and locks the gateway with the Magic Shillelagh. That should keep it safely shut forever, unless of course that rustle in the bushes is the evil Leprechaun that wants his Shillelagh back… The end?
