Based on Albert Einsteins "Id" and its affect on fatherless children, the state kidnaps 4 of N.Y.'s most dangerous criminals and in a two week illegal process, counters the 'Id' (Evil), with a new Super Ego (love), resulting in the violent tendencies permenantly removed.

Full synopsis

Synopsis: The film begins early one Sunday morning, after a night of partying, drinking and gang banging, they awake at a place that not only do they not remember driving to, but a trail, that they never heard of, Cumbersome Trail. At first, the group is too startled to go anywhere for they do not remember how they got there, but they eventually walk up the side of a small hill until they reach the top and look over it. What they see is an era and time that has long since been forgotten. It is a time of old fashion values and work ethics that so many of today’s youth have never experienced let alone understood. Within a fourteen-day interval, Paul, with the assistance of three very beautiful and well trained co-host, cause the four members to experience a slow well contrived metamorphosis based on the premise that what causes them to interact this way is not truly them but the “id” , something that conquers over the super ego due to the lack of father figure in their lives.
Throughout the film, the characters are taken through stages of their lives, not to far unlike "Scrooge" that results in at first, one, then two and eventually all four of these gang members not only changing but marrying their co-host. Host, who unknown to them, despite their beauty and intelligence are inmates, all sentenced from 20 years to life at Paul's all female prison. The conflict arises not only in the gangs violent tendencies and attempts to get out of their contrived surroundings but with the continued worrisome Police chief an Asian attorney who both green light the project and who have both put their careers and livelihoods at stake if the project fails.
At first, the project does fail as one male, the leader, views it all as contrived and ridicules and sees through all the B.S. as he calls it. The program is cancelled and everyone sadly packs up to go home as the police chief resigns and attorney Sato begins packing his stuff in his office. Conversely, William Brand, the violent gang leader is so happy that he continually trips over himself as he rushes to and gets in the limousine that is outside waiting to take him home back to New York . As he sits in the back cracking jokes with the limo driver, he notices Charlotte, a person convicted of murdering the men who rapped her, being chained to a seat in the back of a prison bus. He stares as his eyes begin to water. He realizes that he is not only in love with her, but as the new MAN he has unknowingly become, can not let her be treated this way. He jumps out the limousine, goes pass the armed guards who try to stop him, enters the bus and walks slowly toward the crying and ashamed Charlotte who tries to hide her face into her chest. As the guards with guns raised and pointed at Brand scream telling him to stop, amazingly, the warden Paul , his gun drawn, is screaming at his own guards telling them not to shoot. Brand by this time has reached the back of the bus, stares at what he views as indignation and violently rips the chains from the seats that now restrain Charlotte. He picks up the embarrassed and humiliated Charlotte and carries her to the front of the bus, off the bus then back to the Cumbersome Trail shack that has been his home the past two weeks.

The film ends in a beautiful wedding attended by dignitaries from all over the state. The film Cumbersome Trail is a strange and unparalleled conflict of good vs. bad, new vs. old and change vs. personal stagnation; all encompassed in a social and political masterpiece. It is not a documentary, but a riveting, action lace thriller that culminates with one of the most beautiful marriage scenes the screen will ever see. Cumbersome Trail is a film like no other and leaves the audience to answer the question, are you the person that you were destined to be or that derivative soul that you have allowed yourselves to become.

I always wondered why Hollywood never made movies tp affect soxiety in a socially enhacing way. The goal of Cumbersome Trail is identify the many oppressive forces that affect the urban youth of today, and then teach them (youths) how to beat these forces, all within a 120 minute celluloid extravaganza.
