When a 911 dispatcher is taken hostage the only line between law enforcement and the innocent is cut.
Project collaboration: By Permission
Synopsis: On a routine day at dispatch, 911 operator Pamela Miller receives a phone call from a distorted voice who claims to have hostages. When Pamela asks how many the caller replies: all of them. The caller claims to have taken the entire city hostage but one hostage in particular concerns Pamela, her 6 year old daughter, Cassie. After hearing her daughter’s voice Pamela submits to the caller’s two simple demands, one: don’t answer or transfer any incoming 911 calls, and two: call in a car accident. When the officer, Jeremy, arrives on the scene he reports that the street is quiet and peaceful then suddenly an eighteen wheeler smashes into the cruiser. The caller then commands Pamela to report a fire and when a tattered Jeremy arrives there is no fire then the house bursts into an inferno. The entire time Pamela is secretly communicating with Jeremy via text messages as he attempts to trace the source of the caller’s phone signal. Finally the caller orders Pamela to report an officer down. Pamela struggles with whether to make the call because she knows it’s a death sentence but her daughter’s life is at stake. Jeremy ventures boldly into the report of an officer down. Soon after the call is traced; the source of the caller’s phone signal is: 911. The inside job operated by one of her colleagues had Pamela performing chores of distraction. She sent every officer to the outskirts of the city for the accident, fire and officer down calls while the real crime was a bank heist; without a direct line to 911 the robbery was performed in broad daylight. Now without police assistance and her daughter in the hands of criminals, Pamela must stop calling for help and save the day.

    Creative Notes:
Operator is a contained thriller and a sprawling action picture. The taut and tense atmosphere of being trapped in the 911 dispatch is contrasted against the fast paced, high voltage action outside the dispatch center where police officers are sent to the scenes of accidents that have yet to happen.
