A tragic tale demonstrating how one stupid mistake can destroy the lives of many and when there’s a death involved it’s impossible to take it all back and start over. The story structure has a nice pace to it and the accident flashbacks are well placed. The characters are real and interesting; however, I’d like to get inside of them a little more. The dialogue was a little superficial and I understand that’s the problem with this family; they all just keep saying they’re fine, but it might be good if there was a way for the audience to see beyond the surface somehow. I think the stakes could be higher by adding some additional element in the story that looms in the distance for Harlan. I like the story as is but feel a need for more. It seems like everything is too easily resolved – maybe it’s not really resolved but it seems to be at the end of the script. Also, Harlan’s need to have Fred forgive him didn’t ring true since Harlan doesn’t even forgive himself - and why would he since he is clearly at fault. This is a great topic to explore and all of these troubled personalities make for a complex bit of storytelling, but I think the framework for a good script is there, it just needs a little development.
