I love horror movies, especially ones that are family friendly so my children can watch as well. They love the R.L. Stine's Goosebump series, which this film reminds me of, as well. I think you have a great idea and you have a pretty great film going on.
As one reviewer suggested, that I would like to agree on, is that you should make it known somehow, that the mom is a vampire as well. She could be a hybrid, that is why she can go out during the day, as well as seeing her reflection, etc. That is why the parents had to split up. Or another angle could be that the dad is a vampire hunter to get revenge since one of them turned his wife (mom) into a vampire. There are many different aspects that you could really do with this film. I like that you are wanting to make this a family film, which is great because there aren't many monster movies currently that are kid-friendly. Ones like "Monster Squad" and "Lost Boys" are things of the past, which should be brought back. Children love to be scared and enjoy watching action and adventure movies. Not every child/teen like the love-laced "Twilight" series. So this would be a perfect alternative.
