Like another reviewer stated, it reminded me of "Lost Boys" where a vampire dates the mom and tries to turn her into a vampire as well.
I love horror movies, especially ones that are family friendly so my children can watch as well. They love the R.L. Stine's Goosebump series, which this film reminds me of, as well. I think you have a great idea and you have a pretty great film going on.

As one reviewer suggested, that I would like to agree on, is that you should make it known somehow, that the mom is a vampire as well. She could be a hybrid, that is why she can go out during the day, as well as seeing her reflection, etc. That is why the parents had to split up. Or another angle could be that the dad is a vampire hunter to get revenge since one of them turned his wife (mom) into a vampire. There are many different aspects that you could really do with this film. I like that you are wanting to make this a family film, which is great because there aren't many monster movies currently that are kid-friendly. Ones like "Monster Squad" and "Lost Boys" are things of the past, which should be brought back. Children love to be scared and enjoy watching action and adventure movies. Not every child/teen like the love-laced "Twilight" series. So this would be a perfect alternative.

Now, I actually love vampire movies. Especially the one titled Lost Boys. This movie has the feel of a vampire movie and I like the fact that it was cut to become a film short for this competition. However, the plot of the story doesn't support a feature legnth movie.

The reason why I say this is because the film looks as if it only supports the stated amount of time spent watching this short. If there were other scenes of stalkings, murders, cops investigating, other vampires being killed, and even a sort of witch hunt type deal going on then I could love this movie just like I do Lost Boys. That's my favorite vampire movie even though there are many others out there that I love too! I believe that with the proper planning this movie can become a feature film that I could enjoy in the movie theater, but there must be more background on the vampire himself before I consider this.

Over all this is a fair movie short that kept my attention and foreshadowed like the guidelines tell you to do. The actors and actresses can use minor work but they fullfilled the need of this film short correctly. But there is one thing though that wasn't really thought out. When she invited the vampire over for dinner how many people out there prepare an assortment of cooked meats to fit all tastes beforehand? Why not ask first when the invitation was given and then prepare it that way.

Then there is the fact of it not being too predictable. If a movie is too predictable then why watch it? You already know what's going to happen. There are no scenes to challenge your intellect. And this movie does all of this except for a slight over foreshadowing. Not because vampires do play mind games with thei victims, but because you knew that the vampire was going to attack eventually and also that her husband was going to show up. Just showing the vial of holy water was enough to show that he would come around. Maybe if his wife was turned and he had to save her by killing her turner before she made her first kill. Now that would grab the audience and make them feel for the characters more.

Obviously a lot of work went into this while you were in school, so congratulations on that. Unfortunately, the premise is identical to "Fright Night." In fact, it's almost exactly the same, except for the part about the dad being a vampire hunter.

This might not be so bad, except for the fact that a re-make of "Fright Night" is in production right now, so there's no chance of this being made into a feature film in it's current form.

This isn't to say that there's nothing here... The idea of a lonely kid caught between separated parents who finds something wrong with his new neighbor isn't a bad one. You just can't do vampires.

Is there a script for the feature length version? Do you plan on writing one? How do you plan to proceed to the next stage?

The film does remind me of "Let me in", but i think the Dialog was poor, i think that's the only problem with this picture.
