As a writer and film goer, I would enjoy this journey with Crane and Cora. It could be a great independent film.

Like the recent Tolstoy film, Crane and Cora's life is the grist of great drama. For me, I relate this story to the likes of Hemingway, F. Scott and Norman Mailer. Would it be commercial, possibly, but I don't know. It would probably depend on the actors that played our main characters. Crane's success reminds me slightly of Herman Melville who wrote one of the great novels, if not the greatest, and yet had never experienced any real success. Crane didn't achieve financial success, but probably was more renowned than Melville because of the Red Badge of Courage. In any event, if this was made into a film, I would see it.

There really isn't much to critique, but what few issues I noted are not a big deal. So, here goes:

pp 11) INT. GRAND CENTRAL STATION: Should be a slug line, but it reads in the dialogue window. (No big deal.)

I think there's a mistake with the SUPER Jacksonsville, 1996. I believe the date is wrong.

pp 22) I love the line: The music of men. Says so much.

pp 27 & 28) Your montage: You may want to just number it or use A) B) C) D) etc. mostly to
remind Readers that it is a montage and not Action Lines.

Again, on page 30: Super Impose: January 2, 1997????

pp 34) Nice line: By the very last star of truth, it is easier to steal eggs from under a hen then it was to change seats in the dinghy. ( As a former fisherman, I could relate to this as I know how difficult it is to change seats in a small skiff.-:))))

pp 35) My question: From a historical POV, was Crane actually reported lost at sea?

pp 36) You may need a cut after INT. HOTEL OF DREAMS onto Cora spins roulette wheel.

pp 38) Super impose Feb 24th 1897. I'm assuming this date is correct?

pp 40) Sex scene was a nice surprise.

pp 41) Another surprise when Cora got mad at Crane for reading her journal.

pp 50) You nailed the subtle etiquette of that time period.

pp 66) The door bursts open should be an action line, but it is in dialogue window.

pp 68) Nice line: By my compass, we are sixty degrees beyond penniless. Reminds me of: Things were so tough in my house, the mice moved out.

pp 83) Brigadier General Leonard Wood should be in Caps as he is introduce.

pp 98) Action line: INT. CRANE STUDY - NIGHT There's two opposites in the line.

pp 103) I'm not sure you need the camera to to follow her out of the kitchen. Your call.

pp 105) Even though I found it interesting, I' m not sure you need to include Author's note, as most producers, I believe, wouldn't give a hoot.

Anyway, Jack, most of these comments are minor. All in all, I enjoyed the journey.

Best of luck,

Richard Guimond
