This was fun to read from the beginning. Ultra-quirky, and brutally bloody, violent, and over-the-top. And I mean that in a good way. This was part Bubba Ho-Tep, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Wizard of Oz. With some From Dusk 'Til Dawn thrown in there. Very good structure. You got into the story at a quick pace and we learned about the "universe" this story inhabits along the way. The "mythology" of how the Whispers work, and the other supernatural entities (I don't want to give away all of it) was very compelling, and I would even say kind of scary. The creepy elements were solidly creepy, and the comedy was solidly comedy. And when they came together, the tone just worked right. Kind of like how Shaun of the Dead worked as both a good zombie movie and a good comedy. If I have any criticism, it's only related to this being an early draft. Some dialogue could be made more efficient, and a little more character development along the way. One thing that threw me off a little was two of the characters being named similarly - Sammy and Samael. I misread a couple times and had to double-check the character. Also... the level of devestation in the end had me worried about hopes for a sequel! I'll definately read future drafts, and looking forward to reading your other stuff!
