With hits like Megamind and Despicable Me that graced theaters this year it is no doubt that Villain is on the right track. However, since those two movies were basically the same idea this script seems to be the third wheel. However, I think that the four stars are justified simply in the fun I had in reading it. The characters are colorful, the dialogue is witty and at times pretty hilarious, and the story structure is concrete. Character development was sacrificed, but as I viewed this as a PG animated film I felt that all the arcs that fell short was absolutely necessary to keep the pace for this type of film. What caught me off-guard was the script is not predictable. I won't spoil anything, but a certain lovable "henchmen" made the script enjoyable enough to read. I'll hand it to Richard that he took a plot device that has already been deemed successful and made it fresh enough to be entertaining.
