More About Me

The usual story.

I love movies since my very early age. As I was getting older, I started to shoot stills first, then VHS-C materials, then digital works. In the recent years I made a few short films just for fun. These are experiments in the "one man filmmaking".

After I wrote my short movies, I started to think about writing a full length feature. The result can be find here at AS.

We all have seen a huge number of serial killer movies. It's almost done to death already. Almost...

But time to time something emerges which is somewhat original. This one has the potential. It has a very good premise, remarkable characters and decent action. I'll be very brief and to the point.

THE GOOD
- the excellent premise (killer of the killers)
- the characters (LB, Mendoza, and Ellborn for a certain degree)
- good pacing with strategically placed action scenes
- good dialogue
- R-rated approach

THE BAD
- a little low key and sudden climax
- we don't know enough about Ellborn's motivations and emotions

AND THE UGLY
- clichés: sex scene between the two main characters, split personality theme (albeit used well here), yearbook photo album.
(Ok, Ok, I know that we cannot avoid all the genre traditions! However we need to try.)

A good effort, where the negatives are minor to the overall enjoyment of the ride.

The story successfully fuses the classic elements of ghost ship, demonic possession and sea adventure tales. It moves forward flawlessly and therefore it's easy to read. The visuals would be great on the big screen!

I especially love the hard hitting horror elements at the beginning (eg. the butchered family). The car chase sequence is also very good. The ending is fitting and traditional to the genre.

Somehow it reminds me of the Jaws just without the great white shark.

I like the basic premise of this story. The doomed hero who desperately tries to escape from the time loop; this can work well on screen if you could get a good director. I also liked the ending which presented another explanation of the events before.

The characters are OK within the genre traditions. The dialogue is average, but fitting.

However there is not enough adventure during the repeated loops. There are occasional elements which do not add anything to the story. The final showdown in the laboratory is a little bit uninspired. The hero shoots at the device and that's all. Not exciting enough!

I would suggest to develop a greater conspiracy as the goal of the time loop.

I can imagine this as a low budget thriller in its current form. As somebody already mentioned before, it shows similarities to SOURCE CODE. But SOURCE CODE has a more inspired driving force behind the events (eg. train wreck). That's what missing here.

Influences

My primary inspiration comes from the works of Robert Rodriguez, who showed us first that you can make a decent movie without money and crew.

I think John Woo is unbeatable in shooting stylish action scenes.
