As the country celebrates the sesquicentennial of the beginning of the Civil War, more attention is paid to the millions of stories that comprised that conflict. Seldom are stories told about women in the time of war, and even more infrequently are those stories about women who broke with convention. This script hits all of those points and more. A highly engaging, well paced story of a woman searching for freedom by taking the guise of a male, then finding the limitations that all humans face, Private Thompson's Secret War is a story that deserved to be seen by the masses. The script is touching without being sappy, romantic without being cliche, and violent without being gory.
