Very unique on many levels, keeps you guessing and moves forward at a nice pace. I love the world, the fantasy aspects, the characters and the chemistry. My only suggestion: it feels a lot like a stageplay at times and wonder if it could be expanded to be more "cinematic."
There are a few typos that should be corrected and I would edit out all the stage type directions for the actors. These slow down the reading process. Great work, thank you for your recommendations as well.

This story captured me right away and I immediately felt a strong chemistry between Caleb and Elizabeth. I also felt the opening scenes did a nice job of setting up the world of the story. Overall, it all moves at a very nice pace, the characters are strongly drawn and the dialogue accurately captures the time and place.
What I struggled with was the shifts in mood and tone. In the beginning, it seemed that it would be a very dramatic period piece with a touch of horror, something akin to "The Crucible." It loses something when it suddenly becomes an adventure on the high seas, and at times becomes even humorous, despite all the carnage. The magical powers also need to be better established at the outset. Many times, they seem like a deux ex machina, as opposed to having clear definitions and boundaries.
All in all, this is a great adventure with a good beginning, middle and end, just needs a little more polish in the tone and consistency.
