I was getting carried away editing Laurence's version... And it would be unfair to upload an entire edit. He deserves the credit. But here is my 'take' on the story's first sequence.

FADE IN:

EXT. BLACK HILLS - NIGHT

Drums and flutes accompany the SOUND of Navajo chanting.

NAVAJO CHILDREN listen intently to a campfire story.

Through smoke, spiritual Inuit faces against a rich backdrop of Stars swirl to form the Milky way.

CHIEF NIZHONI (V.O.)
Never forget: Ancestors will always outnumber Earth’s grains of sand and I, like you, once had a mentor that told me stories of other-worldly life. Of cultures out there that shared their wisdom; way-of-life, hopes and fears.

An alien-gray appears within the fire to then dissolve into an image of a sun.

MATCH CUT:


EXT. MARS BASE - DAY

Lit by a distant sun, hid in a ravine; an artificial roof disguises it from Earth’s prying eyes.

A spider-like MONSTER attacks the base. People in pressure suits run screaming. Plasma-blasts turn them to rust-colored dust.

FLYING SAUCERS spin like buzz-saw blades, shooting lasers towards the creature.

CHIEF NIZHONI AS MONSTER (V.O.)

EXT. BLACK HILLS - NIGHT

All but one of the Navajo children cower in fear.
The CHIEF touches the child on the nose, leaving a rust colored line.

Within all cultures there
will rise a Brave.

CUT TO:

INT. FINTAN’S BEDROOM - NIGHT

Sounds of battle fade away.

A normal teenage boy’s bedroom, tidy, but not perfectly so. Posters of NASA vehicles, the Space Shuttle, the Mars Rover and more adorn the walls. FINTAN REILLY (14, Male) lies on his bed, sleeping. His eyes SNAP open. He looks into a mirror and touches his nose.
