Sean Lavery (Roanoke)

It all began when my father powered up his old mammoth VHS camcorder and filmed my brother and sisters and I in his rendition of "The Wizard of Oz". I was probably five years old. This is not just the earliest memory I have of being involved with movies, but one of the earliest memories of my life!
Having had a camera in my hands since I was ten years old, I've wanted nothing more than to become a filmmaker. My resume is quite extensive if you include the numerous 20 minute parodies my brother and I made while growing up!
Because there were no schools nearby offering film studies when I reached college age and film school was a financial impossibility for me, I studied broadcasting at a local community college. After drudging through and realizing that there were too many rules and creative restrictions in the world of broadcasting, I became dead set on becoming a film director.
Since then, I have worked every common job you can think of (fast food, retail, telemarketing, etc), while managing to make two films off my minuscule hourly wages: RURIK and I WORK FOR JOHNNY, which are now part of the AS network.
I'm currently working on my third feature-length movie entitled "Mr. Valentine" (You can find information about it on my Facebook page linked above). Every film made has been an amazing learning experience and a rewarding one.
My dream is like any other creative person's: To do what I love to do as a career. I hope to be involved in the film industry in any way possible on the professional level.
I have a great admiration for independent filmmakers and hope to be included in that group of strong-minded creatively free individuals!
