About

I'm an Australian whose scripts have placed in or won various competitions: I was a quarter-finalist in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Nicholl Fellowships for three scripts and a semi-finalist in the same for one. I was also a semi-finalist in Paramount's Chesterfield Writer's Project and finalist in Final Draft's Big Break competition; while at graduate school for film production, I received a writing grant and optioned the script it was based on. In the last few years, I've optioned a couple of scripts and been hired to do several rewrites. I'm represented by Meyer Management in Los Angeles, California.

I'm new to this site and so wanted to read the original script to see how the development process had changed it. I must say I like this better than the more recent premises and characters I've seen for the same story (i.e. low-class rather than prince; natural plague rather than magic).

For what it's worth (as I guess no one's looking at this draft anymore), I think it could be improved in three simple ways: 1) tie the story into some existing history about an ill-documented plague in Rome (with a super at the beginning or end); 2) make the dialogue more of the period and less modern American (it walks a fine line with the whole tongue-in-cheek cool approach vs. seriousness, but I think it could maintain that balance with better period dialogue); 3) remove the contradictions with it affecting the girl more slowly than others and only some zombies exploding into dust when shot with arrows.

Regardless, the premise and set pieces are amazing!

Amazing artwork and editing, but I prefer the premise in the original script. Also, I think the cheap animation doesn't work so well and it'd be better with quick pans across the still images.

One of the great things about Amazon Studios is that it offers writers a chance to read scripts that have just been optioned. So, I jumped at this opportunity to see how good the competition is. And this is pretty darn good.

I was particularly impressed by the colorful character descriptions and well-thought-out, original sci-fi elements. My only notes about the sci-fi stuff are 1) that Firestorm felt like a rip off of the weapons platform in SPACE COWBOYS and 2) that the artificial gravity could do with an explanation so as not to come off as a standard budget-saving device; I mean, if SCION's not rotating, that's some pretty amazing technology they have.

My biggest criticism of this script would be in regard to the characters: While they were all easily distinguishable from one another, I couldn't work out what the relationship between Jonathan and Christine was until the very end. Also, Jonathan's arc wasn't so clear.

Great stuff. Love the Lego (big fan myself). Just think it could use more about the gaming - to clarify the premise.
