About

I studied Creative Writing and Story Telling at Calvin College, in Grand Rapids, MI. I also took numerous classes in the field of Sociology.

I chose Sociology for two reasons: first, because within Sociology lies the field of Anthropology, which in turn contains folklore, myth, and legend, all rich with incredible stories that most of the world has forgotten; and second, because a good story involves real people, driven and afflicted by real issues. Sociology assisted me in understanding these motivations and issues, i.e. the human condition.

I write to create something new. The world is so rich with the old and already-done. It is my desire to present the world with that which it has never seen before. Perhaps, that will require most of my life to create. I look forward to it.

As of now, my writing career is quite young. I have primarily written journalistic pieces, published in my college's newspaper, and since college, for a beer review website called The Perfectly Happy Man. As the "My Work at Amazon Studios" section expands, expect this list to also expand.

Thank you so much for stopping by to check out my page. Feel free to drop me a review of my presented work thus far, or drop me a line on Facebook or Twitter. I love hearing from other writers, and yes, I do take criticism extremely well (as long as it presented with civility).

Influences

J.R.R. Tolkien, whose book, The Hobbit, really got me into reading. Since, many of the greats, like Dumas and Steinbeck, have inspired and shaped my craft as I've grown to appreciate story, and how to tell my own.
